Video player not working in Firefox

None of the videos on the site have been working for me for a bit now. Maybe a month or longer?

I'm on Firefox 113.

This is all I see - no poster image on the video, and clicking the play button doesn't do anything.

When I open up the developer console, I see the following logs:

I'm able to use the "Download Video" option to watch in my browser, but something's up with the video player on the site that doesn't seem to work correctly.

Also throwing my feedback for my experience with Firefox. I'll have to try the download option but I haven't been able to use the video player for at least a month or two now.

I forget if there are tickets for Firefox specifically, but I think there's a version of this bug on Chrome that @dtoast might have already filed. Nonetheless, I'll still ping him as a precaution.

Here's how I fixed it:

Click the link at the bottom says "Do not sell my personal information" - click that and the cookie settings pop up. I enabled "functional" and "Performance" cookies. Now the video player works again.

Others have reported only "performance" are needed to fix the issue

What's the status of the video player these days? Is it a shared player that's used outside of giant bomb? It looks like the code is still referencing RedVentures, so I'm wondering what engineer's even responsible for bug fixes on it?

Wow. Been having and complaining about this issue since Fandom took over.

tontogoldstein you are a gentleman and a scholar. Much respect. Too bad we couldn't get that info from the engineers. I've spent months having to go off site to watch videos. I find that a bit sus since that would drive add revenue on those platforms..

So....I was using Firefox as a workaround for the video player not working in Chrome or Edge, and now it's not working in Firefox either. How are we supposed to watch videos on this website with nothing but video content?

I’m sure another meeting with the engineers will fix it this time.

Enable JavaScript in Firefox settings. - this is what helped me once

A fix just went live for Premium Videos and shouldn't require a workaround anymore. Please give it a try and let @dtoast know if additional support tickets need to be filed.

Seems like its broken again... I was able to watch videos last night, but today I can't in Firefox, Chrome, or the GBEnthusiast app on Android TV. Well, newer videos seem to load, but any older premium stuff (in this case Vinnievania, 'cause its that time of year) gets no where.

yaeh, its even happening to me for the first time. And its been like this for the past month or so.

I know there was a possible site revision or refresh that may have reset progress with the video player earlier this week that @dtoast filed as a Tier 1 ticket. Is this still a problem for everyone?

Yup. This is still a problem for me. And for the life of me I cannot find the option to 'Enable Performance Cookies'.

@zombiepie: definitely still a problem for me. Turning on the performance cookies option in the "Do not sell my personal information" modal and refreshing the page fixes it. Turning them back off breaks the video player again. The cookie setting seems to reset every day, so fixing the cookie settings only fixes the video player for about a day.

After months, maybe even over a year of not being able to watch the embedded videos, that cookie setting fixed it! I had pretty much stuck to youtube and twitch to watch GB stuff for a long time cause of it.

Any Video Bomb (Android) users on here? Mine just isn't playing videos anymore. Have to resort to YouTube.

Update: I enabled a setting in Firefox that seemed to be disabled for whatever reason (HTTPS-Only Mode) and now it seems to be working???

Update: I enabled a setting in Firefox that seemed to be disabled for whatever reason (HTTPS-Only Mode) and now it seems to be working???

@zombiepie: Lol, literally an hour after it seemingly 'solved', it's gone back to a black screen when trying to play older videos. So I'm unsure at this point what to do. I cannot edit these high performance cookies which has been pointed out to me, so I'm stumped.

Still not working on Chrome

Not working here either, with cookies enabled.

It's weird too, I tried a different brower, and a video worked, then after one time working, videos play with just sound, no picture. I tried with 4 different browsers (Opera, Chrome, Brave, Vivaldi), same result, works the first time, second time no video, or just not working at all. Annoying since I just renewed Premium.

The same just started happening with me using Safari and Firefox. It was working fine for me a week or two ago but now suddenly it's doing this again.

Pinging @dtoast. As he has put it in the past, there have been examples of updates to the site unintentionally reverting things and progress with the video player getting reversed.

There used to be the performance thing at the bottom of each page but that is gone. I can't uncheck the tracking cookies to play videos anymore.

@bobbywich: this shpuld still work, albeit, the steps are different. Find "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" and click it. The site's OneTrust page should pop up and from there you can flip the performance cookies. Unfortunately, after enabling them you need to refresh once.

Yeah turns out it was whatever's enabled in my ublock. I just turned it off for the site and will have to deal with ads.

But if you open it in an Incognito window, it works. I don't know why, as I don't have any extensions, but there you go

No progress for me either, I got bored of testing with different browsers too, same result as I described before. Sadly I had to end my Premium, downloaded a bunch of stuff, favourites and occasional video I missed.
