Activision loses tittle of most evil publisher to EA

Aaron got abused on the EA forums in a rant that involved a lot of swearing. Said rant had his name in it. Aaron got banned. I will never buy an EA game on pc ever again.

I still can't help but think that there's something more to it than that.

That said, I will continue to happily buy EA titles.

I can only conclude that this was a special situation where the filter bugged out and messed up the ban. I just found some other examples. Apparently their filter system is inappropriately bugged.

Well ok, firstly let's get out of the way the fact that EA had that title first and are only competing to get back what is rightfully theirs. HOWEVER...

This is one messed up policy. The thing that makes Activision evil is systemic. Systems are far more evil than individual policies.

That sucks, but I wouldn't consider it evil.

Not buying (Mostly) highly entertaining products developed by people who put a lot into these projects over many years just because somebody was banned on a internet forum is fairly excessive, and lets be perfectly honest of course you're going to buy an EA game. Mass Effect 3 is right around the corner.

If I boycotted any company that was at least 10 times as evil as EA and Activision combined, I'd never drive a car or wear clothes.

How fucking stupid. Grow up. A moderator was stupid (it's not like that ever happens here or anywhere else on the internet) and banned the wrong dude. I saw a similar thing happen on Skyrim Nexus, guess I should boycott Bethesda games now? Use some fucking sense, children.

I will also not be buying EA games. Mostly because they dropped Harmonix and I don't care for their titles anymore. My roommate is buying Mass Effect 3, so I'll be able to evaluate that without giving them a dime.

My eyes have rolled back into my head so far I may never see again. Publishers can't be "evil." Publishers are made up of a bunch of ordinary people doing their job. Sometimes one of them makes a mistake or doesn't really care about their job and something like this happens. Thousands of people work for big publishers. That's thousands of people that can mess up, millions of different things than can go wrong. That doesn't make something wrong okay, but you have to deal with it appropriately instead of freaking out and having an adolescent temper tantrum. Go politely talk to EA support and explain the problem.

And it was a bug that got fixed. I'm sick of people saying stupid shit like "I'm not buying any more games published by them!!" because of something they don't know the full story, or something that in no way affects them.

Its nothing compared to losing people they're jobs Activision is still at the top.

that's fine if it was a single incident, but there's a Rock Paper Shotgun article that says otherwise, and that it's quite a big problem! I mean sure go ahead, no one's saying your wrong, they just said THEY won't, which is also fine; if you don't want to support bad business practices than you do so by not buying something (or pirating).

I still hate Ubisoft more then any other given their idiotic stance on PC games and have happily not bought a Ubisoft game in many a year.

I'm always very wary of complaints like these. I frequently see complaints like "if you say something bad about Old Republic on the official forums, they'll ban you, they're completely corrupt!" however these people are usually missing out key details. The Halo forums are a perfect example of this, with people always claiming they did nothing to deserve the ban.. until the developers call them out on it and show exactly what they were doing in game (usually running mods, cheating or repeatedly quitting matches). It's quite amusing.

This sounds like a simple filter accident though, and I'd bet the person is unbanned. If this stops you from buying EA games, I'm sure nobody working there cares.

For some reason these threads make me want to go out and support the companies doing these 'evil' things. Weird.

That's a pretty pathetic reason to boycott a company. The dumb stuff EA seems to do seems to be through incompetence instead of pure evil, like Activision. They obviously wouldn't purposefully ban someone for this.

I can't wait for mass effect 3.

Nah I'll keep enjoying my EA games. Mass Effect 3 and SSX here I come.

I'm not boycotting the game because I disapprove of their practices. I'm just not buying the crappy version of their games

Anyway, almost everyone knows that a forum ban on EA equals a ban on games, so the questions remains: Why would anyone ever risk posting on the EA forums for any reason at all?

There's a million and a half publisher neutral forums to participate on, I'm sure a number of them are dedicated to Battlefield.

Well, yes. Activision's still worse. Far worse. They ruined games I used to like. I don't like Aaron though. So maybe I just don't care about him.

Because you should punish the innocent hard working game developers by not buying their games, just because a bug in the banning system accidentally banned someone.

Also for the record, if you think that a rare case accidental banning which can easily be reversed makes a company worse than Activision, who buy up small companies and have them crank out games every year until they're unpopular and then fire them, then you are a fucking idiot.

This is why I get games published by EA by "other" methods...
