Best of 2016

3. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End |
@ivdamke: Eh, honestly from what I saw of the two streams the GB guys did, Heart of Stone was way more interesting than Blood and Wine. It just looked a lot fresher and more interesting, and the tone of it was a nice change of pace. I get quantity on the B&W side mind you. Now if Heart of Stone had a combat overhaul as you mentioned and actually made me like the combat in that game, now we'd be talking. :) I get why Witcher 3 fans really like B&W don't get me wrong. And it's not up to me to tell anyone how to do their top 10, but it's not like it's a super unique piece of DLC. It just bucks the trend of bad, short DLC attached to season passes we've tended to see lately.
I'd say it's a better candidate for DLC of the year (a category I wish they'd bring back). Like The Old Hunters last year needed some recognition as if I had played it prior to GotY, it might have pushed Bloodborne up to first or second on my top 10. That is maybe my favorite piece of content FromSoft has ever done.
@cav829: No doubt Hearts of Stone is more interesting, but honestly that's an incredibly hard precedent to top. If you're basing your opinion of Blood and Wine off of what Vinny streamed you're pretty much seeing the beginning and absolutely 0 of the best parts of that DLC. There's some really fantastic stories in there and some brilliant characters.
Top 6 for me would be
Those are the only 2016 released games I've played any of this year. I've got doom, hyper light drifter and Fire emblem on the backburner, so I'll start those at some point. But my Goty thus far is either Overwatch or Stardew.
@ivdamke: I understand your logic, I just don't share it. But you do raise some interesting points... if CD came out and said this is The Witcher IV, we'd have to treat it as a new game. Apparently I'm drawing the line at what a dev tells me a product is. Which might not be smart in all cases.
@oursin_360:Nah, Star Wars is about action and a dumb story. There are barely any interesting alien species in that franchise. All of them are amazing in Mass Effect though.
Here are my Top 3 as of this moment:
I have several games I haven't finished and a few more that I think are "pretty good", but those are definitely the top of the list.
Also, I bought Doom last night during the Steam Summer Sale and played the first level. Man, that game feels good!
Favorites so far:
Want to get around to:
Looking forward to:
Haven't played too many 2016 releases yet, but Dark Souls III is the leader in the clubhouse at this point.
I've really enjoyed this year so far. Top of everything for me is the following:
1) DOOM
2) Stardew Valley
3) The Witness
4) Darkest Dungeon
5) Hyper Light Drifter
I'd say DLC-wise, Blood and Wine is my favorite thing in a very long time, and only just behind DOOM for my favorite experience of the year.
Semi-ordered from most-to-least positively remembered:
Games already out that I'm interested in:
List of games I've played is here. I don't add games to it until I've started playing them so there is a couple I'm yet to play like Doom (I intend to, I'm just saving money at the moment and Uncharted 4 won out this month) and haven't listed some upcoming titles.
In no particular order.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
Doom
Overwatch
SUPERHOT
Hyper Light Drifter
Street Fighter V
Darkest Dungeon
The Witness
I'm running real low on spots in my top 10. Glad not much else besides Gundam Extreme Vs Force and FFXV is getting me real hype.
In no particular order:
The witness - Fantastic puzzle-game that I feel somewhat too stupid to complete.
Dark souls 3 - A return to form and fantastic supposedly last entry in the series.
Mirrors edge: Catalyst - Despite its flaws no other game has made it so fun to get from point A to point B the fastest way possible. Not even the original.
It's been the year of the shooter for me.
PvZ:GW2 and Overwatch easily take the top two slots and account for 70% of my gaming hours. Lots if Minecraft in there and hoping there will soon be lots of Stardew in there too.
Right now, the highlights of the year are for me Uncharted 4 and Ratchet and Clank. Most of what I've played was released in previous years.
I'm usually really bad at these threads because I'm perpetually behind the times when it comes to current games, but I'm doing better this year. So far I got:
- Dark souls 3
- Doom (Its funny people thought it wore thin towards the end, thats how I feel about almost every game I play and to me Doom was actually the rare exception )
- new Mirrors edge
- Tokyo mirage something hashtag whatever.
- Overwatch
- Firewatch + Ps4 Gone Home
- Hitman
Thats already more AAA Games than I loved last year. And I really should get back to the witness I loved what I played so insanely much.
Doom
Dark Souls III
Overwatch
*fingers crossed* Inside
Also I really enjoyed Avian Attorney. That was 2016 right?
My list, as far as i recall:
Off the list:
Only played 3 games from this year so far, so here they are in order
1. Overwatch
2. Dark Souls 3
3. Dead Star
Overwatch may end up my game of the year.
Hmm..
Uncharted 4
Total Extreme Wrestling 2016 (text-based wrestling booking simulator)
Hitman
And I know I need to try Stardew Valley, so that will probably get a spot.
