" Resident Evil 4's shotgun. So satisfying when it knocked half a mob of enemies down and blew the other half's heads off.

Best shotgun in a shooter
I love the one in Gears 2, took a while to get used to, but once you did, it was so satisfying to wreck dudes with.
I just remembered the pump action shotgun in Killing Floor, it's definitely notable though not my favorite. It feels EXTREMELY powerful.
The first that comes to mind is the shotgun in Stranglehold. I don't know what exactly makes me like it so much, it may be the fact that it feels like such a powerful weapon compared to any others. Also, Lost Planet 2 has a similar one-hit-kill shotgun.
I don't think I've ever come across a shotgun I didnt like. However I can't really name one, cause I have memory like a goldfish.
I think it's pretty hard to make a bad shotgun in a videogame, although I'm pretty sure there's tons.
The one that I'd prefer in real life though would be an AA-12 obviously. Full auto carnage, baby.
" @iDarktread said:That from Timesplitters 2? I think i remember doing a challenge level over and over from that screenshot"Oh god yes. I preferred the double-barrel personally, because Notre Dame was such an awesome level, but that shotgun is awesome as well. "

The Terrible shotgun has to be one of the best from Fallout 3, it was extremely powerful and could destroy a sentry bot in a couple of head shots.

I like Doom and Resident Evil shotguns. Killing Floor and Metro 2033 had good ones too.
TF2 of course, and I really like the shoguns in L4D/L4D2 ... maybe its because of the damage model but they seem really powerfull ... and I like the 870M in BC2 cause it feels like it packs a punch. Probably because of the great sound-design in the game.
The Semi auto shotgun(I can't remember if it was full auto) in Deus Ex. was surprisingly effective. I tend to like the shotgun, yet in video games even at close range I'll often stick to an auto weapon. In real life, since besides everything else involved with guns, i do not have access to full autos, I'm inclined to a shotgun. Used for something other than hunting, it seems a good defensive weapon if with a short barrel.
Has there ever been a game that let you fire a shotgun slug instead of the classic spread? Wondering, because I imagine that would be just about the most satisfying to use.
Doom, or Bad Company 2. For the sheer sound of the thing, BC2 just can't be beat, but Doom's felt oh so right.
Videogame shotguns actually happen to be some of my favorite guns. These are in no particular order, more like what I can jot down since I haven't played most of these in years.
1. Left 4 Dead 2 - SPAS 12 Automatic Shotgun: This thing is really just a beast. It has a loud sound, and the gun model is fucking huge on-screen.
2. Grand Theft Auto 3 - Remington 870 Pump Action Shotgun: This was back when the game allowed you to spam the target and fire button over and over again and it allowed you to basically turn this pump action shotgun into a fully automatic ripper. It sounds great, has an awesome model and it just all-around awesome.
3. Max Payne 2 - Remington 870 Pump Action Shotgun: Much like GTA3's shotgun, this gun is just loud, powerful and bombastic.
4. Far Cry 2 - Mossberg 500 Supressed Shorty: Small, combact, deadly and fun.
5. Far Cry 2 - 12 Gauge Double-Barrel Shotgun: The same as the previous Far Cry 2 shotgun, except it has some awesome designs carved into the metal.
6. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Ithaca 37 Stakeout: Another stubby shotgun that's just all around awesome.
7. The original Doom and Duke Nukem 3D shotguns were incredible pieces of damage.
8. Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil - 12 Gauge Double-Barrel Shotgun: This thing killed almost everything in one shot, and it was fucking loud as HELL.
The ones in Resident Evil 4 or Halo CE, or the Dragon's Breath SPAS-12 from Black Ops (if nothing else, the game had some kickass weapons).
Killzone has really great shotguns too, actually.
