For me, it's probably the shotgun from 1998-2000 HD Half-Life gun models.
Best shotgun in a shooter
" Doom /thread "This. Even the double-barrel from Doom II can't hold up to the original.
The silenced one in No Country for Old Men. How has a game not implemented this idea yet?
Otherwise, the Clark 15B in Battlefield 2142 is probably my favorite one because it's the first one I fell in love with.
But recently it's the AA-12 with explosive rounds in GTA4:TBOGT. The way it just crumples cars and launches dudes is awesome.

Besides the obvious choice of the Doom shotgun, I'm partial to automatic shotguns, specifically the ones in Turok and Max Payne.
Vanquish. That thing will dismember and throw a robot across the room in half a second. The thing is practically a war crime.
"double barrell from doom 2
or spas-12
"
Glad to see someone with some perspective was right there on the first page. The Super Shotgun from Doom 2 and the shotgun from Duke 3d are the best shottys the genre has to offer. Powerful and useful throughout the lengths of their respective games as well. Special mention goes to Red Dead Redemption, which had an excellent variety of guns from years past, all well-rendered and represented, and let you take any of them and plant them under the chin of your opponent and pull the trigger.
As an aside, I remain disappointed in any game that has a pump action shotgun that does the Doom thing and made it where the rythym of the action is very deliberate and slow. A fighting shotgun in the hands of a fighter is easily capable of rapid, fluid fire.
Here's a dude who ain't exactly a pro, but can still apparently handle a 12 guage more elegantly than any Space Marine, ever.
I have recently fell in love with the shotguns in bad company 2. I always loved playing medic so I could heal/rez the team, but I hated the medic guns. Now I can just use the shotgun!
I really hate the shotguns in Team Fortress 2.
"This is the correct answer ladies and gentleman. KZ2 & 3's shotgun easily has the best feel for a shotgun in any game. Not only is it the way you move while wielding it, or the cocking and reloading animations, it also sounds great, and the way enemies react to it after being shot it the best. I sometimes just use it not because its the best gun to use in a situation, but because its so damn fun."
" Does the Flak Cannon from Unreal tournament count as shotgun? "Yes, and this is my answer.
Half-Life 2's shotgun or the MCS from Bad Company 2 (which my friends and I, once accidentally, and now purposefully, call The MORTAL COMBAT SHOTGUN). Yes I know it's a K.
" Vanquish. That thing will dismember and throw a robot across the room in half a second. The thing is practically a war crime. "Ah, that is indeed an excellent choice. No greater satisfaction than sliding between a a pair of giant robot feet and blowing off the kneecaps in slow motion.
Also the Singularity shotgun deserves a mention purely for the fact that you freeze a guy in a time bubble and blast him in the face with the shotgun and watch all the little pellets crawl lazily along till they finally hit him and tear him into chunks.
The akimbo Model 1887 in MW2 before they were nerfed where CRAZY, when i learned they were going to lower their damage, i played the shit out of them. After they changed them, some people found out that they weren't nerfed if you had bling with FMJ so i played the shit out them agian until I got 250 headshots. Man they were beast, the range was insane. They nerfed them and then the Spaz took over in the shotgun rape category.
The one thing I've always LOVED about Halo is the Shotgun.. so either that gun or either the SPAS-12/870MCS in Bad Company 2.
