Craving a Space Sim

Jeff and Ryan's preview of Jumpate: Evolution at the CM day recently has given me the itch to play a space sim (ala Wing Commander or Freespace).

Have there been any good space sims released in the last couple years?  Or should I just dig out Freespace 2 and play through it again?

I don't know much about space sims from the past few years, but The Ur-Quan Masters (Star Control II) is an excellent game.

Why don't you try Mass Effect?  That has been one of the more interesting Space RPGs to come out in recent memory.

A sim game I heard good things about might be Space Rangers 2.

Freelancer had more good about it than bad.  The feeling of freedom I got while flying through space made me love that game despite its flaws.

Put down another recommendation for Freelancer also. Had a good deal of fun in that with its multiplayer anyway.

Galactic Civilizations II is an excellent 4X strategy sim.

You can't go wrong with EvE.
Try reading a few guides from here. You'll get a glimpse of how deep it goes.
