@Hizang: Thematic consistency is a cool thing ro have.
Do you struggle to change your avatar?
I haven't changed mine and I probably won't. It's hard enough for me to finally settle on something like an avatar or color choices so I usually don't change them.
Mine has almost always been Mega Man, with that one exception where I had Skull Man for eh...a week or something?
Anyhow, since I don't like it myself when people change their avatars, because it can make them hard to recognize, I resigned myself to keep this one. I've been considering changing the main colors though, since that's a thing that Mega Man would still do, but have been too lazy to find out how to do that.
I realize that I identify people by their icon more than their name, so I usually keep my avatar some variation of Sandro in order to avoid confusing other users who do the same thing. Though I did change to the Gamespot default forum icon for a while when everyone was still freaking out about the merger. And at some point Dunsparce may make a return appearance.
I used to have a character from The Sims 3 in my likeness playing a video game and looking upset, which I thought was pretty clever at the time considering the site I was using it for. After a long time I replaced that one with "Cool Budgie" that I'm using right now. It's a photo of one of my five budgies that I photoshopped the Deus Ex: HR glasses on to. I thought it turned out okay, if a bit sloppy.
Anyway, point being, I don't put much emphasis on avatars. I could see how you would want people to recognize you as a unique entity, so that you didn't have to explain your views and opinions every time you post something. Unfortunately I'm not active enough on these forums to be "recognized" or anything so I don't think anyone actually knows how I feel about anything.
I do sometimes recognize people more because of their avatars rather than their names though, which can get confusing at times.
Elsewhere, sure. Here, not so much. Probably 'cause I don't post here much, so it's not like anyone would recognize me.
I don't get particularly attached, but I feel like Big Bo has become apart of me. I'll probably edit it or something, but for now Bo is here to stay.
Not really. I've changed my avatar a handful of times. The only reason I don't change it on GB now is because I gotta keep representing my World Heavyweight WWE PPV predictions title! If I ever lose the title again, I'll probably change it up to something new, then when I win the title back for my third title run, I'll either go back to this one or do something new.
I used a few main ones for a long time, but I tend to just stick to one until a new one strikes my fancy. Sentry gun is my newest. Might go back to a photo of myself some time. Hard to say.
I don't have a problem with changing it, but I do make sure to spend a good amount of time with each one so I'm not changing too quickly.
I'm in love with my current avatar so yes. If I'm going to change my avatar it's got to be an impulsive gut decision. I don't look to change it because I figure that some people do come to recognize me because of my avatar rather than my name. No clue if that's actually true, people recognizing me for that fact, but it helps me feel like I have more of an identity in the community.
I'm deeply in favor of responsibility for the shit you say on the internet and I also like to keep my behavior in check, lest I do something embarrassing.

@ManU_Fan10neLeicester City all the way. Fuck Man U.if i would change my avatar, it would mean that i am not a Manchester United fan, therefore, i will never change my avatar.
the euros are upon us, it is time to put away our differences and hope that England the destroys the competition with the help of WAYNE ROONEY.
seriously though, im calling a truce with all my friends (and my brother who likes chelsea.......) for the euros. im not going to tell them how good United is, and they wont bring up how much their teams suck :P
Edit: right now, its all about England, not the clubs. this is what i love about the euros. you can have players from rival clubs play on the same team as if they played with each other their whole life (technically, they have been playing together, just on different teams). its time to put aside rivalries...just for the Euros though (and then the world cup)
I've always felt avatars are anoying and unecessary. I don't recall ICQ having avatars, usenet certainly didn't, its only when forums/boards moved to the web did Avatars come into use. Please note that I write this as a long time lurker, who knows, maybe the prolific Usenet poster/ICQ chat regular really wanted an image to go with their words and they would totally get your dilemma.
Yeah. I literally just added my first avatar on GiantBomb. Was hard thinking of a good way to make a first impression.
