topic explains it all
2D: Super Mario Bros. 3 and Sonic 2
3D: Banjo Kazooie and Super Mario Galaxy
Favorite 2D and 3D platformers?
Favorite 2D platformer? Kind of depends, it changes so often it's impossible to pinpoint but i'd say Earthworm Jim is the front runner.
3D platformer? None of them, they can all go to hell, rancid devil spawn that they are. (obligatory 'imo' here)
2D: Flashback 3D: Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones
You sir get a military ration of Internet for even knowing Flashback exists :)
Another World (Out of This World in the US) is another amazing platformer, very similar. Check it out if you dont know it already. youll love it if you loved flashback. And try flashbacks spiritual sequel, Fade to Black
2D: Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World
3D: Super Mario 64, Crash Bandicoot, Banjo-Kazooie, Sly Cooper
I'm damn surprised nobody mentioned Psychonauts yet. I wasn't a huge fan of it, but I know that many people are.
2D: Earthworm Jim, Rayman, Donkey Kong Country
3D: Get the hell away from me you filthy street urchin!
2D: Mega Man 2, Super Metroid, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (Ah, the memories), and, more recently, Klonoa 2 and Mega Man 9.
3D: Banjo Kazooie, Rocket: Robot on Wheels (probably the best unknown platformer on the N64), Mirror's Edge, and is Assassin's Creed a platformer? It sure does seem to qualify: lots of jumping and maneuvering, things to collect, etc.
2D, it's a tough call between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus.
3D, it's between Spyro: Year of the Dragon and Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy.
I have a new favorite 3D platformer: Prince of Persia (2008)
I just rented the game and beat it fairly quickly. But it was absolutely awesome. Loved every second of it. Cant wait for the inevitable sequel. I was thinking about buying the epilogue DLC but I heard it isn't too great.
2D: Shantae, Flashback, Earthworm Jim, Commander Keen, The Lost Vikings3D: Psychonauts, Rayman 2, Kya: Dark Lineage, Spyro the Dragon, Banjo ... [more]
