Hardest game you ever played!
super mario bros. as per the first time i played the NES....that was a hard experience back in the day.

Battletoads/ Ninja Gaiden Black on Master Ninja. I went over to my friends house yesterday and played both of these games for the first time. My ass was kicked.
Ghouls 'n Ghosts for the Genesis. That game is relentless. Never played Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, but I hear it is hard as well.
motherfuking piece of abominational shit the original Prince of Persia for the SNES. That piece of shit haunted my childhood...
One and only game I have never beaten (Even after years of attempting) is Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage. It was on the Snes and yeah, that game's a bitch!
Probably Battletoads. I draw a line between "hard" and "cheap", and Battletoads does not cross that line. Ghosts 'n Goblins does, but Battletoads doesn't.

I agree. Ghosts 'n Goblins is cheap. So is Prince of Persia.
Sorry guys, but I've played all those games: Ninga Gaiden, Devil May Cry, Megaman 9 and all of them combined are FUCKING, REALLY FUCKING EASY compared to Cannon Spike!—yes, that's what I've said.
Cannon Spike is bad enough in the single-player mode, but once you play with a friend you are forced to share continues. I can't stress enough how difficult it is to get anywhere in the game with a scant three continues to share between two people. It usually meant that one of the players would be going it alone through the rest of the game and destined to die, very, very soon.
The game is basically a top down view, insane shooter that gives about seven levels—baby, child, very easy, easy, normal, hard, very hard. The difficulty on any level other than Baby and Child gets frustrating and unfinishable with the limited amount of continues and lives you are given.
Cannon Spike is without a doubt the shortest and hardest game that no one played.
Devil May Cry 3. But damn that game is fun. No matter how badly it kicked my ass I kept coming back for more.
