I prefer a gamepad, but what about you guys?
Keyboard&Mouse or Gamepad
"Depends which type of game it is. If its a shooter or strategy game, then Keyboard and Mouse.Well the reason I started this post, was because I can't play shooters on a keyboard and mouse at all. But a gamepad is much more natural to me. I wanted to see if I was the only one who just can't use a keyboard and mouse for shooters.Anything else, gamepad."
RTS games and FPS games I prefer to use a mouse and keyboard with. I like using a gamepad better for everything else.
Gamepad. PC games just aren't immersive to me because I have to sit awkwardly with my hands stretched out on a keyboard and mouse on my desk, and my head bent forward to see the monitor, also can't have any coop fun either when friends are over. Yes we all know a mouse is more accurate, but not by much, and it really makes no difference when you're playing with and against other gamepad users.

"I remember back in the day when Quake 3 Arena for the dreamcast allowed DC and PC players to go against eachother... the Dreamcast players got smoked every time, like it wasn't even close.
To be fair: Console FPS controls weren't refined back then, and the Dreamcast controller only sported a single stick, but still... it was pretty funny.

" Yes we all know a mouse is more accurate, but not by much..."
Wrong.
Anyway, it depends on the type of game. Keyboard and mouse are better for precision, so for strategy games and FPSs they are preferable. For space games and racers, some sort of stick is preferable, and a gamepad works pretty good. For "platformers" and the like it depends. I thought the PC controlls for Fable were very good, but for the GTA games it's more hit and miss. It really depends on implementation, I think, but use of a gamepad is probably more natural.
Very much depends on the game. I always used to play using a keyboard/mouse, but it now varies. Here are some examples.
Keyboard (and mouse)
- Portal
- Spore
- Mass Effect
- Burnout Paradise
- Prince of Persia
- Lego Batman
"It depends.
On strategy games and shooters I prefer a keyboard and a mouse, and I prefer a game pad for the rest."

The meaning of this particular assertion is not changed by the context.
I might be wrong but, when given the choice, everyone here prefers every type of game other than RTS and FPS on console, right? Everyone here who has a good computer and plays RTS and FPSes a lot plays with their mouse, as it is more accurate, right?
I think that's really the best way to play these games? I'm not saying for everyone, but I'd think this is the most comfortable and efficient way to play these games for most people.
Bad combinations like playing a complicated RTS on a console seems like eating a big, uncut steak with chopsticks to me.

No, he said that it didn't make a difference if you were playing a FPS using a gamepad if you were playing against other gamepad users, which is true, but has nothing to do with the false assertion that the difference between the precision of a mouse and an analog stick isn't significant. If I had disagreed with anything else he said, I would have addressed it.
"crunchUK said:wow this quote is huge. Look, either way, it's all muscle memory and knowing how much of a twitch it takes to bring your crosshairs onto a target. Maybe you're good with a mouse and not an analog stick, but I happen to be good with both and am at a point where it is all the same to me. A mouse is more accurate, but an analog stick certainly isn't useless in comparison. I'd just prefer to be able to sit back with a wireless controller, rather than move a mouse around all day."Bellum said:No, he said that it didn't make a difference if you were playing a FPS using a gamepad if you were playing against other gamepad users, which is true, but has nothing to do with the false assertion that the difference between the precision of a mouse and an analog stick isn't significant.
