You know, I think we have an error based on our definitions here, all arguing/griefing aside. There are two distinct camps I see in 'griefing.' One is just sitting around being a dick to anyone and everyone for the sake of being a dick. The other is targeted, opportunistic attacks on people who generally reduce the enjoyment of the game for others. The problem here is that griefing doesn't really fit this second camp, because they really aren't out to cause grief, so much as to humble people who themselves are full of bluster and are generally asses. I don't agree with the methods, but I do understand the sentiment. However, going out and just looking for someone you don't like as an excuse to grief seems to be crossing the line.
i dont normally go looking for the people. but if i am playing hardcore, or some game that allows it, i have no problem with stopping what i am doing, and pissing them off
so im not sure what you would call me. a righteous griefer perhaps? hahaha :p

"Griefer, where did you come from?"
"I am always watching, Jim. You should know that more than anyone."
Jim lights his cigar. "Here," he whispers as he exhales a breath of smoke, "this is the information you wanted. The Jokester has been hitting targets all over Xbox Live. Halo 3, Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2...you name it."
"Why hasn't he been banned?"
"We haven't been able to catch him. Everytime we get close, he changes his IP...his gamertag...he uses another fake credit card. You know the deal."
Griefer turns around, grappling hook at the ready.
"Look...", Jim hesitates, "I can't help you on this one. If you get caught...you're on your own this time. The commissioner is on my ass, and if I mess up again, I'm done. With Sarah's medical bills..."
Griefer cuts him off. "I know."
And like that, he vanished into the night.

"You all look a little wet. How about I help you dry off !" exclaims The Jokester as he launches a molotov cocktail at his teammates. "WahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!"
"JOKESTER!"
"Eh?" The Jokester turns around. "Oh, nice of you to join our party, Griefs! I always thought you could use a little lightening up!" Laughing maniacally, The Jokester lit another molotov.
"Not this time, Jokester! This ends here!"
And with a flick of his wrist, Griefer tossed out his notorious Griefer-rang, knocking the cocktail from Jokester's hand and stunning him for the split-second he needed to pounce him.
"You're coming with me!" Griefer growled.
"Waha! Still underestimating me, huh ol' Griefy-boy? My fun's only just beginning ! Ta-taaa...." and gone as quickly as he appeared, The Jokester disappeared.
Slamming his fist into the ground, the Griefer put two fingers up to his ear. "Prophetess! I need a read on Jokester's location, NOW!"
A voice chimed in over his headset. "It looks like he is somewhere in Halo 3... hold on." A few seconds passed. "Got 'em. Sandtrap. Big Team Battle."
"I'm on my way..."

" @SuperSecretAgenda said:They can always retaliate. Sure, might not be smart. But the option's there." @Hailinel said:No, bullied kids can't always retaliate, whether it's due to lack of size, being outnumbered, fear of just being bullied more if the retaliation doesn't work, any number of things. "" @mano521 said:There's a difference. Griefing can be done with absolutely no risk of physical harm. Meanwhile bullying, kid can retaliate. Plus people get PO'd online faster. It's different. And griefing is fun once in a while. "" @Hailinel: there is a clear difference between people who grief over a video game and bullies. if you cant see that difference then i am sorry "No, there's no difference. When you grief, you're just bullying people in an online setting, and it still makes you an asshole. "
" If you need to ruin all of your teammates' fun just so you can be entertained, fuck you. "
I believe team flashing is an effective form of griefing in Counter Strike Source.
I would recommend buying Garry's Mod, going onto an RP Server, and ruining their fun. GMod allows you to get creative. I love buying the doors to other people's businesses, and then locking them so they can't get in / out. Also, spawning cars and throwing them at people.
When it comes to being a dick, you really can't go wrong with Garry's Mod.
