Alright, I've been thinking about this game for the past few weeks now and I can't put my finger on what it's called. I now call out to the wise and knowledgeable GB community to help me out.

These are the things I can remember about it:

1. It was an arcade game, most likely a brawler, but with weapons
2. 1-4 players
3. The characters were warriors (maybe of different class types, maybe not)
4. The characters were color themed blue, red, green, yellow (I think)
5. There was at least one girl character
6. You could eventually either through the use of powerups or the charging of a meter (can't remember what) transform into a "dragon form", where you are equipped with this awesome armor and hit for more damage
7. Played it sometime between 1995-1997
8. It, along with many other famous arcade games at the time could be played at Crystal Palace in New Brunswick, Canada

Alright fellows, give a guy a hand.

Sounds like some weird mix of Golden Axe and Altered Beast.

I'm just going to guess and say maybe Altered Beast or Golden Ax. I'm pretty sure they are both wrong though.

I'm pretty sure it was neither of those two.

Well what kind of settings and enemies did it have? It could be pretty much anything at this point... Maybe Knights of the Round?

The first thing that came to mind was Golden Axe, but aside from that I'm just going to throw out two possibilities for you to look at: Cadillacs and Dinosaurs and D&D:Tower of Doom. Some more info on the setting/style would definitely be helpful.

Gauntlet's not exactly a brawler either, nor do I think it would have been very popular in arcades by 1996.

The style was definitely fantasy; I think it had a lot to do with dragons (thus harnessing dragon strength to become uber powerful for a while). I'm not too clear on the setting but a good portion of it was very dungeon-crawly. The art style was (from my recollection) more of the serious type with less cartoony looking characters, and more tall and skinny kind of characters. I don't think I can remember too many other details since I was like 5 or 6 when I played it.

No clue then. Play Knights of the Round anyway, it's probably better :P

I know you transform into a dragon in Altered Beast, but it doesn't really match up with the rest of your description...I don't really have an answer for you...

That's alright, just throw out anything you have in case it pings something.

Do you recall if it was a single plane game like Altered Beast or a multi-plane game (you can walk up and down) like Double Dragon, Battletoads, etc.?

Maybe it's this? It looks like a more primitive version of Knights of the Round in style... With cool Castlevania-ish extras. Magic Sword:

Do you remember any details on the characters?  Any sort of ending or beginning video or animations?

It was multiplane

This is the cartoony style that I was talking about. My game doesn't have this sort of style; characters are taller, faces are more detailed, zoom is slightly more zoomed in (like Ninja turtles or simpsons)

I'm trying as hard as I can but I'm just not getting anything. All I know is the story involved dragons somehow and the heroes could harness dragon magic to transform (not into dragons but...dragoons? Like in FF Tactics).

The only thing I can think of that sounds similar is Knights of the Round (and, of course, Golden Axe).
