I didn't becasuse GB and Whiskey Media flip-flopped on their position to not take away free features. I don't appreciate liars. What about you guys?
Non-Subscribers: Why did you not commit?
They said nothing will be changed that is already on the site, because they aren't in the business of pissing off the community, then they went and changed the bombcast, and make people who don't subscribe not able to get the last hour until the week after." What was the lie? I'm intrigued. "

So they changed the way you receive your free content?" @hilld1985 said:

I can see why you're all so pissed off.
The bombcast is longer than the other whiskey media podcasts. They wanted to cut it down to an hour. They are justifying the second hour just for these guys by making it as a paid for thing, because in a sense it is being paid for. How would people have felt if they had done this earlier rather than at the same time as the subscription?
Right now I don't feel like spending the $5 or $50 on membership is a good use of my money. Partly because of members only content is not enough justification, but mostly because I have real life things to put the money towards. So, yeah I'm fine "paying" for my "free" WM memberships by not blocking the ads on their sites and even clicking on those ads.
I don't care about HD GB videos
I don't have an Iphone
really the features they are offering are not even worth $5 a year.
No big conspiracy or principle-based rant here.
I just don't use a mobile phone, I don't use any of the other Whisky sites, and I can get all the HD media I want for free elsewhere.
Perhaps I'll subscribe at some point for purely charity reasons but otherwise, the services don't warrant the fee.
Little to no money, and I don't have a job (go ahead and tell me to get one, see where that goes). The very little money I have I need to put into my car for gas. Sometimes being a high school student sucks. It has nothing to do with the price, and although $50 is a bit steep, I might have done it if I found the features to be more appealing. I rarely listen to the bombcast so waiting an extra week to listen to the whole package isn't a big deal for me. Perhaps if I was an avid listener that would have been a deal breaker (and I would try and get some money to subscribe), but it really isn't.
I'm glad the dudes are making money, but I can't just put my money in the pot. I don't think they'll miss $50, though. It is what it is and there isn't much you can do about it. What is insignificant to me is worth it to others, and I'm glad the others are helping Whiskey Media out.
Too many other free outlets with the same info and entertainment. Granted I have come to enjoy the people and personalities of this site but Im sure in a matter of time I could learn to love another. Just not worth $50 a year. Im comparing it to my 360 fee which I gladly pay every year , however I dont see the value in paying $50 to giantbomb. I would love to pretend Im so rich and will drop $50 like its pocket change but its a recession and I dont have time for that bullshit.
Because $50 a year is more than the sub rates for other sites that have far more content than GB.
Look at the output of GB over the past month and it's essentially re-purposed news stories written by interns, a handful of reviews (not all video), a few quick looks, the podcast (which other sites do free) and mailbags shot handheld in five minutes.
Not forgetting of course that the largest section of the site - the wiki - is user generated.
GB is worth $30 a year tops. If they had priced it lower or independently of other Whiskey sites I don't care about (like all of them) they would have got my money just for kicks.
Users are complaining about the two hour bombcast being split up, and the bombcast crew is justifying that having a 2 hour podcast really is worth 8 man-hours of work.
Solution and compromise:
Make the Bomcast One hour and keep it free. Done.

Heh, I'm a college student. What I don't spend on games, movies, or other event tickets goes to food. I love you GB, but I'm not stable enough to donate to the charities that call me up at home (50 cents can feed a country in Africa for a week), let alone pay for something like this.
Its fine and cool that Whiskey Media is doing this, but it'll be a while before I'm able to participate in it.
Honestly, because I view myself as a casual GB user. I seldom listen to/watch the site's content, I don't care about the 'plight' of Jeff, I don't care about Whiskey Media, I don't care about the guys who run the website, and I most certainty don't know or care about weird intimate details of their private lives. I'm just here to make silly comments from time to time and edit wiki articles occasionally.
No other gaming website requires me to pay the reviewers. If they won't allow me to read their reviews unless I pay them, I'll just go to another website. If all websites require me to pay them for a review, I just stop looking for reviews and the game companies lose a sale. No biggy to me. If Giant Bomb does not know how to make money doing reviews, then they do not know what they are doing.
"Make the Bomcast One hour and keep it free. Done. "
Which should have been the way the Bombcast naturally became. It's usually too long as it is and you only have to look back at the E3 podcasts to see how everything wanders after an hour. Most other podcasts run just over an hour and that works fine.
If they had just decided to trim back the runtime, the sub situation would have gone over much better.
"And I don't use mobile site and don't need HD video it's already HD enough. "
Yeah, that's another thing. Even low-quality of GB vids is more than watchable enough. Even though I have the bandwidth I rarely bump it any higher. HD isn't needed for a four minute video of sitting on a couch or opening mail.
I really just use the forums... I sometimes look at the new games and stuff, I NEVER watch the bombcast..... So why should I pay for stuff i dont actually use. Im not begrudging anyone making a buck, but in this age of me being extremely poor, counting every cent and wondering sometimes if i will be able to pay rent, this is a expense I just cant justify
