Destiny. It's not my favorite game ever and I have so many issues with Bungie's decisions and their ongoing decision making, but its also very likely my most played game ever. If I had 100 hours to give to 1 game only there are more than a dozen single player games I'd choose over Destiny, but there's also only so many times I can play through the story in The Witcher, Dragon Age, The Last of Us or Mass Effect before it gets old.

As frustrated as I get with Destiny, there's still something at its core that makes it the type of game I can play for pretty much an endless amount time, provided all my Destiny friends were forced to into the same "1 game for the rest of your life" scenario. If I didn't have anyone to play with Destiny would be a horrible choice for this question.

I think the last time this question came up I chose TMCC (before it came out) just because of the wealth of content but Halo just feels dated to me now. Now i'd probably chose UT or something that has decent mod intergration so that maybe, maaaybe (probably not) I might learn how to do some modding myself. And that could be cool.

I was going to come in here to say "Probably Tetris", and this is probably the version of Tetris I'd go with. The game has a bunch of single-player and multi-player modes, and the Tetris itself has all the features you need. On top of that, it has a whole other game in it I could get good at when I couldn't take any more Tetris.

But Unreal Tournament 2004 or Team Fortress 2 are also strong contenders. I would also consider a fighting game, most likely Smash 4, but only if I had a guaranteed supply of people to play such a game with, offline, for the rest of my life.

I'll go with The Ultimate Doom for much of the same reasons as Super Mario Maker and Sim City 2000 Urban Renewal Kit mentioned above. Infinite community content and replayability.

The answer for me is my favorite game that has the most replayability. The Persona games may be some of my personal favorites, but if I had to play them FOREVER, that wouldn't be great. It would lead to me playing Persona 4 Golden a couple more times and then never playing video games ever again.

Last year I consciously decided to stop playing Hearthstone, primarily because I was playing it too much instead of tackling any other games (Also The Grand Tournament felt kind of meh, so I didn't feel like making any new decks with those cards). So let's go with Hearthstone.

If we're just basing things on speculation, then I'll pick No Man's Sky 3: Revelations. They'll probably have ironed out the issues of the first two games by then....

This may sound weird....Solitaire. I don't know why, but i never get tired of that game.I could play it every day for eternity. I have to force myself to not play it, so i won't spend 4+ hours sitting there playing it. I don't have an issue playing video games for 4+ hours, but when it comes to Solitaire, i feel guilty for some reason, so i have to curb my addiction.

Jeez, if I had to pick one thing? Final Fantasy XIV: ARR.

Or possibly Rocket League. I could play either of those pretty much forever without getting tired of them.

Or, lets change the stakes, how about one game I play for the rest of YOUR life?

I'd play, Global Thermonuclear War...

Heroes of The Storm.

New Maps, Characters makes the game seem new every time it's updated.

It's a tough choice; there have already been a number of great answers. For me, I would say Dwarf Fortress just for the replayability.

If I was stuck playing one game for the rest of my life, then it would have to be a fully decked out Civ 4, or some other 4x variant. There is just no end to the amount of goals and challenges to overcome because of the vast number of variables that can change the experience.

Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne

Why? because it also includes DotA mod and so I'd have a great single player game, a once robust mod scene, a decent map editor and my favorite multiplayer game.

How weird is it if I say Morrowind even though I get ~30 hours in before making a new character.

Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind.

Mods, no Mods, Xbox version, doesn't matter I'll be happy.

@baal_sagoth said:

Tetris or Morrowind (preferably with mods). That or an excellent multiplayer game like Solforge, Company of Heroes or Bad Company 2 with the additional clause of having a guaranteed online community.

So probably Tetris since it'll keep me occupied with no strings attached.

For some reason that was my first thought as well but I don't know if I could go through with it... but I will have to play that theme music now that it's in my head. Edit: aaand my arms got goosebumps from listening to it, urg, SO good

I'll say Mount & blade warband. There's tons of mods, and you essentially create your own story, and the combat is never not satisfying.

I want to say Tetris, but you know, it's probably Civ V. I haven't even played that much of it, but I know I can put as much time into one round as I do into most entire games. And playing a few twelve-hour matches a month, it would take me years to get so good as to ruin my enjoyment.

Civilization 5 most likely. But wouldn't be dissatisfied if I had to pick an offline only game and wound up with Tetris instead.

knowing hundreds to thousands of coaches have lived and died attempting to master the game of basketball adds some perspective. Add to that dozens of game modes, thirty teams, hundreds of players and I can see this game stretching years, maybe decades

On one hand Hearthstone is the game I've been playing regularly since it came out, but if I were to play it exclusively I think I'd go completely bonkers. There's also Civ (as many others have said), but if I were to play just a single game it'd have to something that I could feasibly play online regularly. In some way Diablo 3 seems like the best candidate, but I think Path of Exile might be a better choice (even though I like Diablo better) just because it has a much slower end-game.

I haven't played it yet, but I feel like I'm gonna get a lot of mileage out of Stellaris when I eventually buy it.

Out of what I own though? Probably Mass Effect 2.

Civilization IV.

Though the Neverwinter Nights games, with their endless mods, might come close.

All else fails, I'd get back into League of Legends or finally get serious about DotA 2.

I'd be okay with any of the Monster Hunter games. It takes a good long while to do all the quests and the different weapon types give plenty of variation.

I'd also be fine with just about any of the Pokèmon games, since I already have a bad habit of replaying those a lot with different Pokèmon.

Possibly Cities Skylines for me. But I would want all the expansions. Oh, and it they need to add a sex expansion to it too.
