The real question is: Why haven't they REmade the rest of the games in the series? 2, 3, Code Veronica? I'd love to see a retooled 2, but Darkside Chronicles will have to fill that hole for now.
I think if you turned all those > into <, that list might be accurate. I started with RE1 then played RE4 then RE2 and RE5. RE1 is good at what it does but that formula only works for one game. RE4 is God's gift to gamers, RE2 had an interesting story, but it was less scary and the gameplay wasn't up to snuff. RE5 was different but very fun in a do whatever you want newgame plus forever kind of way.

*ugh* Look, people can like the RE games however the fuck they want to. Personally, the only good ones IMO are the first game, Code Veronica, and RE4. The rest are either rehashing their own shit too much or they can be easily speed-run. RE5 just didn't do it for me.

Please tell me why Survival Horror cannot contain a "rescue mission." (that must mean most Survival Horror games aren't Survival Horror?). But since you know exactly what the definition of "Survival Horror" is (even though the rescue mission thing means most of your list isn't in the genre, as well as most other games), please tell us what the definition is.
I understand how merchants contradict "survival," but please also explain why every Resident Evil game has to be a survival horror thing.
And I'm still not understanding why remakes don't count as well...
4, 2, CV over all. 5 died to me when they added guns that killed the game. and the cover system in the game doesnt work well with enemies firing at u becuz i cant move aginst teh wall

I consider myself an ''Old Skool'' RE fan so I agree somewhat to that list...its still pretty meffed up for RE5 to top ''any'' of the RE main games. RE5 should be in a list detailing which is better....Dead Aim, survivor, RE5....=P

Nah, the series jumped the shark at Code Veronica with Matrix-Wesker. It's better that he's gone now.
I'm not a huge fan, but critically RE4 was received as one of the best games ever (I believe IGN actually called it THE best game ever). I think you should differentiate between story and gameplay, because it seems like you are ranking them based on story. RE4 was a genre-changing game. It set the stage for every 3rd person shooter to come after it, i.e. Gears.
