It is pretty amazing, they are not perfect but I can honestly say that I am proud to be part of this community. I see other forums and they are often a mess of bad grammar and out right bias and prejudice.
Who agrees with me on this? I feel like I have to tone down some what intelligent conversation on other forums, but not here.
It ain't perfect but it's good.
These are the most mature game forums on the web.
D'aww.
GB still has a lot of idiots and trolls frequenting the forums but a large active community and mods that seem to be on top of shit goes a long way.
I'm still glad you feel that way and I enjoy shooting the breeze about games, but this forum still has its spambots and immature users.
Giant Bomb's forums actually are pretty decent. Especially when factoring in the sheer size of the audience. It's always difficult to keep something from going to shit once it has hit critical mass (since the majority of human beings -- especially online -- are fucking twats). That said, I'm sure there are plenty of much better gaming forums to participate in. I'm too lazy to bother, though - and frankly, Giant Bomb serves well enough, since I already get 90% of my content here, too.
The benefit any of the "better" forums would have is likely in that they're smaller communities. Like NoobToob, for example. They sure as fuck aren't going to be your GameSpot and Joystiq type sites.
I have the complete opposite experience.Used to be but has been getting worse.
From what I've seen it's leaps and bounds better than what it was like when the forums first opened up. I sort of recall checking this place out when they rolled out the forums and remember it being quite the shit fest. I stuck with just posting at the small gaming forum I've been on for 5 years now (which actually caters directly to the mature gamer, have to be at least 18 to even sign up). Then sometime last year I made my way back here it almost seemed like a different place. I guess that could be attributed to better moderation?
Other than Giant Bomb, the only other forum I was active in was the EA Tiger Woods PGA Tour forum for the Wii. A lot of older guys play golf games in the virtual world, older than me. But those older fucks can cry like a baby, let me tell you, bitch, bitch, bitch.
I lurked the Gamespot forums, but only used Gamefaqs to post.
I'm biased. I lost my virginity to Giant Bomb. These forums have taught to love, to hate, and what it means to be a true fan of video games and the people that play them. I live on these forums.
This is pretty true. Compared to IGN this place is a goddamn bastion of virtue. It's better than Kotaku, and they have two layers of bullshit before your comments even get seen.
The only other forums I was active on were the gamespot boards...and since we know those sucked, yeah we're the best in my books!
that's because we are small community. i think once this site become even more popular then we will start seeing trolls, spam, and other such internet things that happen. somebody told me to fix my grammer on the internet so i did. person mostly told me stop posting u instead of the correct way you.
The only sites I find manageable and generally mature are this site, most of Destructoid, and Games Radar, mostly because very few people post comments there.
As someone who does a lot of scrolling and lurking I'd have to agree. I end up doing a lot of actual forum reading here whereas on other sites I have to dodge the forums completely. Sure I wish everyone would learn how to use "there", "their", and "they're", but I can easily live with that. Hell I'm sure to break triple digits in posting here and that is simply unheard of.
The GB forums and chat are the short bus of Whiskey Media sites. You can actually hear the helmets tapping against the screen.
Well, it feels like there's less of the sort of bullshit that annoys me about reading gaming discussion on the internet, but I don't know if I'm willing to make a claim like that - we can be pretty immature. I will say, though, usually I find it really hard to get into forums of this kind of size unless I've been there from early on, but the community here is pretty damn welcoming and it's generally full of good vibes.
I agree. So long as you pick and choose......
