This may just be my poor memory, but I seem to remember people disliking this game greatly around the time when it came out. Now that it's come out on PSN, it seems that everywhere I look people are praising how awesome it is. I personally have still not played it, but I plan to. I was just wondering if my memory about people thinking this game was bad was correct.
Was this considered to be bad when it came out?
I liked the card game. I think a lot of people missed the hodgepodge cast of popeyes from FF7. Everyone's a 17something effeminate white person. Triple Triad is great, though. Also, enemies leveled up for you so you couldn't grind out of a challenge, you had to actually figure the system out and a lot of people apparently don't like having to think.
I'm getting sick of this bug. I thought it would be something cool, instead it's FFVIII. Horrible game.
Actually, I can't stand it at all. I have complete loathing for it. Shitty boring game. 4 discs of hell.
It's one of the better FFs - although bear in mind that this opinion comes from someone who bears a strong disdain towards X (and especially X-2...) but loved VII, VIII and IX.
It was a bit of a stylistic departure for the series and the battle system is slightly broken (not in the fights themselves but the junctioning system can be abused to give yourself far better stats than your level should allow) but the characters were well done, the world was interesting and the story was captivating - for me at least.
I totally called this being Final Fantasy VIII as soon as I saw 'PSN.' I, personally, loved the game. It was the first game I got on my PS, and I'd say I played through it about 5 times or so. Haven't bought it on the PSN for some reason yet, but I'll probably knock out another playthrough this summer between doing lesson plans.
