I dont have an Xbox and I want to know. Thanks.
What are the major differences between XBL and PSN?
Here is the link to Giant Bomb wiki page Xbox Live, and this is the link for the Wikipedia page.
XBL you pay for peer-to-peer connections
PSN is free
That is a huge one.
However XBL allows you to rate players and most multiplayer games can benefit from XBL in the fact that it acts as a hub, all players stats/skill can be recorded if the game allows for it and use their "TrueSkill" system for fair matches. Meanwhile, on PSN, almost every game has its own way of dealing with Multiplayer, although with games like Uncharted 2, they are beginning to blur the lines a little further in this regard, as Uncharted 2 has many of the features that XBL touts... but it is only for that one specific game, Sony needs to take the approach that Uncharted took, and apply it across their whole network.
PSN allows you to surf the web in a fully functional web browser. I like that, something XBL COULD offer, but doesn't. XBL allows you to stream Netflix if you have a Netflix account, if you have a girl/boy friend then you might want to consider this, makes for an easy date night without having to go out.
Really there are less and less differences between the two as both systems age. Sony has been playing catch up in the past and even a little bit still, but for the most part they are both pretty much on par. You just pay for one and not the other.

About $50, somethings are exclusive as well or at least for a limited amount of time. Like Fallout 3 DLC came out first to XBL, and the Joker challenge maps came out for Batman on the PS3. Idk if that answers your question though.

This works with a "reputation" system that is in place and is 'mostly' disregarded by the matchmaking system, with some minor considerations (for instance, if you do not prefer to play with a particular player, the system will attempt to keep you out of games with that person, but no guarantees). However XBL allows you to rate players and most multiplayer games can benefit from XBL in the fact that it acts as a hub, all players stats/skill can be recorded if the game allows for it and use their "TrueSkill" system for fair matches.wait i dont quite get this. do players rate each other or does the game just rate you according to how well you did? and is this trueskill system used for matchmaking "
The game also rates you on how well you do but the factors involved vary from game to game. Most rate mostly on whether you win or lose and nothing in-between, but there are exceptions for those developers who implement more of the features.
nothing really as in playing online. a lot of it to me seems the same.
ps3 u can surf the internet, chat with friend,
$50 a year for gold, u can party chat, netflix if u live in US, update soon to have facebook, twitter. rate players.
to me they both seem the same just xbox 360 has more things to do with internet.
Well you could use twitter on the PS3 if you so desired through the web browser, and i would think Facebook would work too (or am i wrong?, not a Facebook user)" nothing really as in playing online. a lot of it to me seems the same. ps3 u can surf the internet, chat with friend, $50 a year for gold, u can party chat, netflix if u live in US, update soon to have facebook, twitter. rate players. to me they both seem the same just xbox 360 has more things to do with internet. You can use both Twitter and Facebook on the PS3, and while I don't really use either very much, they are rather awkward to navigate on the PS3's browser, where as the 360's new apps are specifically designed to run on the console, and even have new specific gaming features. They're definitely usable on the PSN, but if I want to quickly update my Twitter page, I'd jump onto my 360 rather than my PS3.
" @pornstorestiffi said:Thats might be true, its not the best experience navigating the PS3 browser with a controller. But you do however also have the option to hook up a mouse and a keyboard, which would make it a lot easier. Plus you still would be able to use those for free, where as the 360 offer those apps through the XBL Gold subscription." @iam3green said:The 360 also has Windows Live Messenger/MSN built into the dashboard, which is very useful for just chatting and can be used by even silver members. " Xbox live lacks that hilarious awkwardness on PSN. You know, like when a teenage nerd is paired up with a hot girl and they exchange hello's and then remain silent for the remainder of their time together? Yeah, you won't get that on XBL. "i know, in xbl you just get 13 yr old ritalin popping adhd twats exchanging racial slurs
(sorry i just couldnt help myself :P)

Actually, y'know what, there 'is' something wrong! Why do I have to pay more when the Canadian dollar is almost worth more than the American dollar(what with the American economy collapsing like a house-of-cards and all)." @PureRok said:

Xbox Live: Everyone's a racist homophobe who's learned a new offensive word and feels they must share it with everyone
PSN: Everyone's a racist homophobe who's learned a new offensive word and feels they must share it with everyone...but can't because they don't have a mic.

for me the major difference is the community features of xbox live, such as insider moves, sentuamessage, monday musings the avatars friends list adds to it aswell. But my favourite feature of xbox live is the cross game chats, i could be playing cod4 and voice chat with 1 or many of my friends who could be playing halo, forza gears of war plus getting into games with friends are much easier aswell due to the cross game invites found in the guide.
With Xbox Live you pay monthly/annual fee, and generally get a more meaty experience than PSN. With PSN you don't pay a dime, and get an increasingly improving experience that is quickly catching up to Live. There is no difference in lag or anything between the two services, and playing games online remains exactly the same.
" @Reuben said:PSN network doesn't have a party system, it doesn't have a direct chat system. Online connectivity with the xbox 360 is just better. The 360's "guide" menu is much easier to use and allows you to add people/send messages and continue playing with someone you just met right away. Sure that's not actually XBL that is the operating system but it helps. Also the content on XBL is crazy, When I got my PS3 I got bored of the playstation store as soon as I started browsing through it. There is hardly any content on it." You do pay for XBL but it is a lot better than PSN. It's just so easy to get going and make friends and start having tons of fun. I mean I love my PS3 but the online just isn't quite there. "yes but WHAT makes xbl better? "
Anyway there is more but I'm not wasting my time. You'll just have to play on XBL for a good while and get used to it to see why it's better for yourself.
PSN is good, I never said it was bad if that's the vibe I'm giving out. It's just that XBL is better.
