What is the most disappointing game of 2010?
You can be disappointed and still enjoy it." I try not to be so negative. I've enjoyed all my games. "
OT: Heavy Rain, by far.
"Crackdown 2. That game was complete wank. "
Pretty much have to agree with this. The first one was a lot of fun to play through with friends, it wasn't the most involving game ever, but just a lot of fun.
The second seemed to go out of its way to change and ruin everything I liked about the first one. Evolving characters, transforming vehicles, varied objectives that can be completed however you change.
" @AlisterCat said:But I haven't. My expectations are always pitched at the exact level of the game that is delivered." I try not to be so negative. I've enjoyed all my games. "You can be disappointed and still enjoy it. OT: Heavy Rain by far. "
I had high hopes. Turned out to be shit (hopefully they patched it to a non-shitty state, I haven't played it in a while).
Hur dur! Black Ops, Halo Reach and Red Dead Redemption. Anything popular and well made is lame!
Honestly? While they're not terrible games, I felt that titles like AvP, Alpha Protocol, Dark Void, Mafia 2 and a few others were just inches away from being really neat, only to be let down by all manner of niggles and bugs.
On a personal level it would be fable 3. Keep in mind I haven't actually played the game but this was the one I really wanted to get into. Hearing about the offensive UI and extremely easy combat was a huge disappointment.
1) The only thing disappointing about APB was that the management took £100 million and 300 workers five years to come up with something that died in months. So that's my vote.
2) Every single multiplatform PS3 port that ended up bad. So many developers have proven to us that PS3 ports can be made equal or better to their 360 equivalents given a little time and effort. Add an often untouched (they all are) SPU into the mix and you'll get free quality anti-aliasing.
3) Microsoft's continued douchebaggery and aholery buying exclusive rights ruining the console playfield
Mass Effect 2
I was expecting a continuation of the amazing story from the original Mass Effect, instead I got a side story of how Shepard built his team in preperation to continue the story of the original Mass Effect. It just felt so "gamey" and formulaic. Recruit member, talk to member until they give you a loyalty mission, complete loyalty mission, rinse and repeat. Also don't forget to scan planets for resources while listening to your MP3 player trying not to die of boredom. Oh, and the final boss fight was one of the worst I've ever seen.
Halo Reach, simply for the fact im not playing it now and thats the fastest I have ever stopped playing a Halo game. Its not a bad game, its just turned out not to be for me this time.
"Fable 3 Gotta throw some shout-outs to New Vegas, God of War 3, FF XIII, Crackdown 2, Alpha Protocol, Medal of Honor, Hydrophobia, Comic Jumper, Dante's Inferno and Nier. It's been a reasonably disappointing year imo. "
People always seem to call Fable disappointing. I definitely that the first game was, but we knew what to expect with the second and it wasn't ridiculously overhyped. This is even more true for Fable 3, it was just a refined version of 2. Was anyone expecting anything more? Perhaps still not the amazing series it could be, but still just a lot of fun to play.
Comic Jumper I'd agree wtih though, Twisted Pixel have made some amazing games so far and Comic Jumper was hilarious.. But the gameplay just didn't hold up.
I would have to say Red Dead Redemption. Everything on paper said I should have loved it, and I know most people did, but there was something about the combat that just didn't click with me. Therefore, disappointment. It's well made, gorgeous, etc. And I really wanted to love it, but I ended up a bit bored, frustrated, and eventually put it down not long after arriving in Mexico.

I mean, we were promised to see pure, unconditional love in our dog. Nope. He digs holes, that's about it. We were going to marry and have kids. Well, yeah, after I wooed my wife with fart jokes in about two minutes I wasn't all that into her. So, yeah, overhyped. Fable 3, though, not so much. I think people should have learned their lesson, but I don't think many did. I had very low expectations for Fable 2 given the lackluster Black and White. I was still disappointed. I haven't played Fable 3, but if anyone were expecting more than it delivered, they probably deserved to be disappointed.
"God of War III.I expected one of the best 3D beat 'em ups ever made, and got the mashiest fucking mashfest since No More Heroes, with poor camerawork, mediocre-ass boss battles, and a story that's horrible even by video game standards. "
I think your problem was is you expected it to be a beat em up.
The rest is just wrong.
Alan Wake for me. The hype behind this game was incredible they made it seem like this was going revolutionize video game industry. It wasn't a bad game by any means as I did enjoy the story and the atmosphere but the gameplay was just so repetitive and dull.

That would be my choice too.

Noooo, it is a hack N slash, get your genres right.
Video games are classified by their mechanics, not their aesthetics. Whether you fight with fists, baseball bats or swords is irrelevant -- single-player gamer with focus on melee combat are beat 'em ups. You can call a beat 'em up featuring bladed weapons a "hack 'n slash", but it is not a separate genre (or even a genre at all)." @Icemael said:

Heavy Rain. Quantic Dream has officially proven that they can't write for SHIT.

Also, hack'n'slash for a long time was the term for games like Diablo, before some fuckwad invented the dumb term "action-RPG"." Video games are classified by their mechanics, not their aesthetics.
