Best Buy has been playing in the used game market for a while. Now that they plan on taking in used consoles and offering Best Buy Gift Cards (that can be used on anything in the store) for your trade in, Will Best Buy finally topple the evil GameStop?
Will Best Buy Kill GameStop?
Only full control of the disk will kill Gamestop. When video games become mostly digital, that's when you'll see the change. But by that time, Gamestop will have changed from brick and mortar to digital download. I wonder if they will allow me to trade in my digital copies for some Gamestop credit. That would be cool.
Let's hope they kill each other and we can start with digital distribution without having to deal with these crappy ass stores.
I think they are going to eat each other. Then I will come in with my game/electronic store GameBuy.
I prefer Best Buy over Gamestop, mainly because I can get in and out quickly and no one hassles me for a pre-order, but no. That being said I am going to experiment when I get my Vita and only buy games off the Playstation Store.
I have never got this whole "GameStop is evil" mentality. Yes, I have heard many "horror stories" of people's experiences in a random GameStop somewhere in the country, but I have heard just as many, if not more stories about Best Buy and any other big retail chain, electronic or otherwise.
The Internet picks some really weird things to be angry about sometimes.

Or you can order online and not have to deal with those crappy ass stores.

that's the Internet in a nutshell, people being angry for no perticuler reason
This. You would think that being asked to pre order something and refusing to do so is such a big deal. People are bitches basically.I have never got this whole "GameStop is evil" mentality. @l4wd0g: They've done for this for a long time now...at least over a year. They originally offered much higher trade-in values but now they line up about the same. Honestly, sometimes worse as in the time since they started they haven't offered bonus credit of any kind.
Other than that I think Best Buy offers better deals through the Reward Zone bonus credit. Heck, many new games you get $10 credit just for buying. Gamestop only offers crappy or unsubstantial pre-order bonsuses. When I bought Halo Reach from Best Buy I received a $20 gift card, $10 for reserving it, and also got a shirt. When I preordered Gears of War 2 I got the game, the remote control tank, a hat, a shirt, and a 6 pack of Coca Cola. Just sayin'.
I doubt that they will "kill" Gamestop, personally I don't go to either. I shop online and the last games I sold were to Amazon because it was easy and I got more money from them. Plus i can buy whatever with an Amazon giftcard. But personally I hope they don't, sometimes Gamestop has decent deals online for used games.
I'm not a big fan of Best Buy by any means, but offering me trade in for store credit is great, because they offer so much more. I'm done playing these games, i'll just trade them in for a Kindle, iTunes card, washer and dryer etc.
The other interesting thing they are doing is making an app that lets you scan your game to check it's trade in value, which is nice and I wish all places did this.
Not a chance. Going to a Best Buy is an incredibly unpleasant experience, regardless of customer service which (outside of the Geek Squad people) is generally unhelpful. I have never seen a more disorganized and ugly retail chain than Best Buy.
Worse than Wal-Mart. I do not make that statement lightly.
@Little_Socrates: I would say, in general, Gamestop is worse. At least at a Best Buy I haven't had someone constantly talk terrible video game information to me or act like talking about the import scene matters to the type of client who comes in to the store. At my local Best Buys I get help when I look for it. Of course both of our opinions are based on our experiences, which every location isn't the same.
I was a manager at a Gamestop for almost 2 years and sometimes the stuff I would hear from coworkers was hilarious. I don't know if it boiled down to them thinking they needed people to think they were highly mindful about video games or something but it was hilarious. Also, not liking every call of duty game or madden apparently labels you as "the guy who doesn't like anything".
Have you been to a Best Buy lately? They just suck now. Everything is overpriced, the selection of games and movies is just pathetic, and I swear you have to be mildly retarded to work there. I think it is only a matter of time until they go the way of Circuit City.
Long term, Best Buy is in a far better position to take out GS. It won't happen overnight, but I cannot see GS surviving on their current business model beyond another five years.
Oh man, one time I went to this party and both Best Buy and Gamestop were totally there. Needless to say it was totally awkward. Best Buy was all like "I'm totally going to kill that bag of shit" and we were all like "Dude, I think you need to stop drinking." I ended up on the porch talking to Best Buy about his feelings while he smoked like 10 cigarettes he found in the bathroom. After like an hour he calmed down and tried to hug me but he kind of smelled like crotch vomit so I backed away, then he started crying about his dad never hugging him and blah blah blah so I just left him outside.

It all depends on your point of view. If you see all corporations as "evil," then it's just as evil. If you see the majority of GameStop business coming from used games as opposed to Best Buy then GameStop is far more "evil." If you're a collector like me, you see all disk based games as killing your hobby the producers are "evil."
If you want I can PM you on how collecting games died as a result of CD/DVD/Blu Ray.
