I dislike most religon's, so that would be a no.
Would you be interested in a religion-based game (specifically, an MMO)?
I'm somewhat religious but if the game is good....sure. If you mean interested solely based on the fact that is based on religion though, then no. Unless its like some marvel vs capcom or ssbb type game where you get to battle it out with every religion's god. Then hell yes.
Yes, it would be awesome, and I have often thought about it. A game based on Buddhism would be very cool, it could be a little like a Animal Crossing, but far far deeper :)
You offer no specifics at all, the question if very vague and could encompass anything from "Would you like to play a Paladin or Cleric?" to "Would you like a Vatican MMO where you rise through the ranks of the priesthood"
See the wide range of religious themes there from hardly any to a whole bunch. Honestly, a game solely about religion, again, I could say yes or no it depends on the specifics, the gameplay, the games standpoint on religion (is it pro, or anti?)
Theres too many questions before I can answer such a vague question with a yes or a no.
I'd like to see a Religion based fighting game. It would have characters such as Budha, Jesus, Allah, Ganesha, Ahura Mazda, and others. The game should have fatalities. Jesus would nail his opponents to a cross. Also, it could be used to resolve age-old arguments about whos god is superior. in conclusion, I feel that this game would be very radical and should be made soon.
NO absolutely not, i mean, i believe in God and my religion and all, but that is just a horrible horrible theme for a game. so much boredom would ensue.

Except better.
Using religion to manipulate the peasantry in Civ 4 is enough for me. I wouldn't want a whole game based on that mechanic though. Most other ideas would just have religion as a backdrop.
yeah but it would have to not be gum drops and lolly pops
it would have to deal with religious tales and mythos and such.
I'm not religious and I wouldn't mind playing a game that's based around religious beliefs but until an MMO radically changes the WoW formula of gameplay I won't be picking any kind of MMO up. It's not that MMOs are bad, it's just I find them rather dull.
That depends.. I mean the God Of War series are based on old Greek religion, and thats not so bad. And Dante's inferno is loosely based on Christianity.
As long as the game is made for indoctrinating people, i don't want Second Life: Christianity Edition.

" A game based around multiple fake over-the-top religions would be awesome, with the player deciding which religion to side with and what god to worship. Moral choices would work well in a game like that. "Now that sounds awesome!:D
I'm trying to ignore that part of my brain that's screaming "there is no way in hell anyone would get away with it," as well as my Christian upbringing that wants me to feel that it's wrong. Honestly, a religion-based MMO would be great, especially if you looked at it from the perspective of how it affects the secular world around you. You could build an empire around your chosen religion, converting other tribes to your ways (via force if necessary), taking in aspects of other pagan religions in order to strengthen your own, sacking other sacred cities, identifying key disruptive influences in your empire, labeling them heretics, and publicly punishing them, etc. It would make for a fantastic game.
But there's no way anyone would get away with it. :P
Aren't there already tons of those? Aside from the Wisdom Tree crap, there's some CDi games, Terranigma, and several others I can't name.
Not explicitly, but doesn't a lot of that happen in a lot of mythology/ancient egypt/medieval strategy games? Implicitly of course you are never actually told you are on a crusade, or you might see some people put to the stocks, or you'll get some missions to exterminate heretics, but it doesn't go into depth and I don't think it needs to because then it just feels preachy.
