I'm curious about any of you fellow bombers who are bilingual. Whats your first language? What's the second or even third language you know? And I'm curious how difficult it was to master it, or even if your still learning. (like me)
First Language: Canadian English
Second Language: Japanese (still learning)
I've been learning Japanese for about 2 months now and I think I've got a good handle on the basics. I can read Hiragana and have a pretty good beginning vocabulary. I also know 3 kanji. I'll be learning katakana in the next week or so. I think I'm doing pretty good so far. I have a challenging road ahead of me but I know I can do it.
Any bilingual people here?
I took Spanish in high school. I've absorbed a handful of words in many different languages over time, I just figured out Jambo means 'hello' in Swahili recently.
I'm slowly learning Japanese. I became inspired to try to learn it by a World History teacher who taught the class 2 kanji. At that time our high school didn't teach Japanese, so it never became available as a language I could learn while I was in school. At first during my HS years I taught myself hirigana & katakana and I had 2 different paid tutors over time. That was about 10 years ago now.
Right now I'm still not very good at Japanese, but I can make by in many import games.

I speak English and I'm Honors 11th grade Spanish. I'm in no way fluent, but I can understand it well enough.
First Language: English
Second Language: Spanish...
If you can really say that. I'm only in Spanish II, and my Spanish I teacher was also the German teacher and sucked at it. My new teacher was actually born in a Spanish-speaking country and learned English as a second language. In other words, he's a much better teacher and I'm actually learning.

I have funneled all of my linguistic energy into a single intense laser beam and focused it right onto the English language. My crazy mastery of the English language has made every other language irrelevant as far as I'm concerned.
