Avenged Sevenfold's Self titled album is easily the best rock n' roll CD to come in a long time. If you hanv't listed to it because you dont like their other stuff do your self a favor and open your mind a little and give her a listen.
The Offspring's new album is weak, IMO. I used to be a big fan (I own the pre-Smash stuff), but it feels like they're running out of ideas. They tried growing up a bit with their Rise and Fall, but it comes off as desperately trying to stay relevant.
Anyway, I'd have to say Bon Iver's For Emma, Forever Ago is my album of the year withSigur Rós's Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust and/or Coldplay's Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends coming in second.

I really liked Avengeds old stuff, but their new album.. I don't think I've seen a band sell out so badly before.
Sell out how? It's sex drugs and rock n' roll and sounds good doing it. I've never cared for the Transylvania sound they got going, but they finally mixed it up and its awesome.. To each his own i guess.

The Offspring's new album a terrible. I used to love the band, now I cannot stand them. Hammerhead is okay, but is way too long and the first minute sucks.

This is the worst post I have ever seen. I'm not sure about what's the best album this year, but I absolutely love Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard's TDK score so that's got to be one of the best.
Well, seeing as how I have yet to listen to every album that came out this year, I'm not sure that I'm qualified to answer that question. However, I can say that so far, I enjoyed The Red Album, by Weezer, and Accelerate, by REM.
And Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace was pretty good too.

It's practically a toss-up. Both are great.
The honorable mentions go to Elephant Shell by Tokyo Police Club and Sigur Ros' new one... some really long Icelandic name... but whatever it is, it's good.
I didn't like the upped production values compared to their past work at first, but it's an album that really grew on me. It really shines through that Danger Mouse helped produce this one.

"There hasn't been too many options for my listening pleasure this year, but there is a definitive favorite.

Every song is a stunner.
Surely a different Beck sound, but he couldn't keep putting out Odelay. He's getting up there in years, and his sound is maturing.
It sounds more like a band now, than just Beck. It's a great album.

I absolutely agree. I can't remember the last time I've heard an album that flows so effortlessly through the entire way. It feels like a whole rather than just singles strung together. At the same time I feel like it takes a slight hit from from having a sort of "sameness" to some of the songs. It's been awesome to see Beck back in form though. It was getting depressing watching him release mediocre after mediocre album. As a 90's kid it's good to see Beck making good music again.
