By that I mean possibly a professional in sports, or is on TV? Anything is fine. I'll share mine with you all.

Nick Setta

He's my cousin. This was the best picture I could find of him on the internet. I used to visit Notre Dame whenever he was playing. He kicked for the team, and according to the wiki I posted, now plays for Canadians. Guess I haven't seen him in a long time.

Hope you guys have someone to post. Otherwise this thread will die pretty fast, but I guess I'm prepared.

If you have to search the internet for said relative's pics, you shouldn't have the right to brag. Clearly he's left you behind!

According to some book I read a little bit of, I'm a descendant of some famous people called "Adam" and "Eve" but I never really checked my family history to confirm it.

I grandfather was apart of the team, that built the first electric Computer.  He was a double masters, in Mechanical and electronic engineering. Fought in WW2 and Korea and killed fiddy men with a machine gun.  He has a real Japanese officer sword and a couple bayonets. Retired as a Chief.

During WW2 he traveled around the world 4 times.

I'm a distant cousin of George Lucas' through marriage/divorce.

Other than that, I have no important relatives.  I prefer it that way.

I have nothing.

I remember a serial killer in the USA from a decade or so back who shares my family name (a relatively uncommon one), so he could be a relative :P

My uncle was the strongest man in winnipeg and also had the most penalties in hockey for a while.  My god mother who is like a part of the family and lives around here has done quite a bit because she became a nun at the age of 17 or so and traveled to Alaska and many other places.  Her brother was green beret in the vietnam war, and said they taught him like 100 ways to kill someone, even with a pencil apparently.  He doesn't talk about it, but he's seen a lot of bad things.  Said once he was sharing a smoke with his friend, and when he tried to pass it back his friend was dead.  Because he was an explosives specialist (not sure if thats the right name for it) he was trying to disarm a grenade but it was faulty and it exploded in his hands.  After the war he managed to became a cop (had to make a special glove that would allow him to properly fire a pistol because he was missing a finger or two).  He did undercover drug busts, including spending time in prison to get information from other prisoners, but after a while he was known as "4 fingers" (or maybe it was 3 fingers...)  and so his cover didn't last long after that.  None of my relatives are famous as far as I know.

I'm distantly related to 10th President John Tyler, who was in reality kind of a shitty president and the first to become president upon the death of his predecessor.

Funny story: Having alienated both the political parties he previously associated with during a generally awful first term, Tyler tried to run for his own elected office as President on the strength of his pro-annexation of Texas by forming a third party. When it was clear he wasn't going to be able to get enough support to make any real run, he pretty much was forced to say he was going to step down at the same time that the Democrats named James K. Polk as their running mate, running on a heavily pro-annexation platform.

In the end, Polk became something of a folk hero to snooty Presidential historians and They Might Be Giants fans; Tyler, a Confederate Congressman during the Civil War, went on to be the only US President on record to not be publicly mourned in Washington DC.

Speaking of Bill Gates, I was in a games shop and some kids asked about a game.  Before the assistant could say anything, I explained all they needed to know and stuff they didn't need to know (that is what us geeks do).  One of the kids shouts out, "wow, it's Bill Gates, thanks"  Despite a similar age and both of us being redheads (the greying kind), I was very insulted by the comparison.  I have never stolen other people's stuff and pretended it was mine in my whole life :P

My grandfather helped to build the legs of the lunar space module, and on the other side of the family, my distant grandfather was Frederick Law Olmstead, who was the father of American Landscape Design, who designed things like Central Park etc.

Also, let's not forget, I am going to save the world, so I'm here to mention myself.

I'm a close relative of gene autry, daniel boon, and Paul Daniel (great great uncle) and William Griffin (great grandfather), if you don't know paul daniel started the worldwide daniel industries. It first started out in California and then moved its headquaters to Houston. Unfornately it got bought out but it is still very successful to this day. Anyway that's just something I like to brag about.

Two cousins of mine did do some serious jail time.   Apparently it was related to a murder, the one brother killed a guy and the other brother helped him cover it up.  "Gang bullshit" from what my brother told me.   If you can't be famous be infamous I guess.

My grandfather worked on parts / measured stuff for the first Lunar Rover.  He was in the engine room of an aircraft carrier in WW2.  He also owned a mountain in Colorado, but his wife (grandmother) sold it a few years back.  It was called the Rimrock in Durango, CO (it was on CNN once cause part of it fell off after fireworks on July 4th...1998 I think).

My great aunt was cousins with Buffalo Bill Cody.  My great great grandfather and his brother built this huge hotel that was on "homes of the rich and famous" or something.  It's like over a thousand bucks a night there.   They let my grandparents stay 1 night there because of them being descendants (but only 1 night).  It's now owned on that brother's side of the family.
My sister and brother-in-law worked with the Illinois Governor a lot and meet famous politicians all the time (like Sarah Palin, ack, they like her).  Bro-in-law met a dude who worked on the Robotech anime and twittered me while talking to me (and I talked to him indirectly).

Closest thing to famous I've done is submit my idea for a level in the game "Aliens vs Predator" that the developers e-mailed me back saying it was a good idea and they'd use it.  It was in the 1st level as Marines when you walk down a long halway with lights on the ceiling that 'come at you'.  The lights turn on and off in a sequence that they are lighting up toward you.  Anywho, I was proud of that.

My grandfather helped design a bunch of crazy military vehicles, most recently for Picatinny Arsenal, for his entire life and, upon retiring, got a signed letter from the President (Dubya, at the time). I think one of the things he worked on was the Bradley Fighting Vehicle.

My dad is listed as one of the top three corporate advertising lawyers in the country, and he was a lead litigator in the Napster case. My "papa" (aka my mom's dad) is a renowned architect and probably the nicest man on the planet. And er...my brother is a belligerent ass, but can play guitar like a mofo; so because my dad was, for a period of time, Trent Reznor's lawyer, when Reznor was told that my brother played guitar and was a huge fan of his, Reznor asked my dad to tell my bro to send him a tape of my brother's skillz. My brother recorded himself jamming out and gave it to my dad to give to Trent Reznor. Then Reznor gave my brother his guitar and told him to keep it up, because he had serious talent....

Lucky bastard. =*/

Oh, yeah. That reminds me. My late grandpa (dad's dad) was an engineer for the Flying Tigers. Kinda cool, if you ask me.
