so,for those who have not heard,G4TV is going out.word round the campfire is they are to be replaced a "GQ" modern man type of network. so i thought this would be a nice place to leave some parting words to the "history" OF G4.

I didnt much like them. i enjoyed them back in the day when they had stuff like CinemaTech and the like. but the last few years, every time ive watched the network, its been nothing but crappy reality tv.ive read alot of reasons as to way they went downhill but i think its because they didnt focus on what the channel was created for.for gamers. i didnt often see interviews with developers, live streams of upcoming games or anything. all i saw was reruns of COPS and NINJA WARRIOR.so i cant say im sad they went tits up.

so below, dear gamers, think of this as a euolgy for G4TV.thoughts,acusations..........................?

I'm glad. G4 died along time ago. I hope it rots in the lowest pit in hell, and share a cage with Lucifer.

#3 Posted by SirPsychoSexy (1225 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

Maybe they shouldn't have ran cops and cheaters 24/7, just sayin.

#4 Posted by ShadowConqueror (2556 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

Time to turn it into the Giant Bomb network.

#5 Posted by DoctorDanger99 (641 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

@SirPsychoSexy: exactly. they could have run shows that gamers like or enjoy watching.instead they chose CHEATERS.

#6 Posted by BraveToaster (12588 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

They've been dead to me for years. I don't find entertainment in watching Cops or Cheaters. :D

#7 Posted by Sin4profit (2598 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

I thought G4 was DOA when it took over Tech TV (which i liked) so chalk one up for inevitability.

#8 Posted by JasonR86 (7673 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

I wonder what the GQ-modern man demographic is? I bet I don't belong in it.

#9 Posted by SlightConfuse (3963 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

where will i watch COPS now!!!

#10 Posted by handlas (2246 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

Eh...i use to watch it a little. Probably a step in the right direction to change it up. I'd rather visit websites about tech and games rather than watch a show that is mostly filler.

#11 Posted by Nightriff (2877 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

@SlightConfuse: Every other channel ever

I used to watch G4 but lost interest a few years ago. Ninja Warrior was the only good thing they ever really showed and they never showed enough of it, always their stupid American version that no one gave a shit about

#12 Posted by Shady (491 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

lol

#13 Posted by NTM (6419 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

If it would have been all about the games, then I wouldn't have minded, but there was so little of that on G4, I can't care less about it's future.

#14 Posted by Hailinel (18040 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

Well, good-bye X-Play. You won't be missed.

#15 Posted by connerthekewlkid (998 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

did morgan leave? or is she still gonna be there because shes the only tech tv person left now

#16 Posted by Phatmac (5245 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

That sucks. G4 tried the video game thing on TV and it didn't seem to work out in the end. A true shame.

#17 Posted by Ravenousrattler (1417 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

it's been slowly turning into spike tv for years so its not really surprising.

#18 Posted by iam3green (14380 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

well that sucks. i will kind of miss it but other times i won't. they went from video games, to weird tv shows like cops and cheaters. they pretty much showed cops and cheaters 24/7 except for attack of the show, then back to cheaters and cops.

i stopped watching them for a few years now as they stopped showing video game stuff. i do remember back in the day when i first saw the station. i watched it all the time. i even posted on their message boards.

one time i saw tommy tallireco in an elevator. i went to san diego for vacation and comic con was there. parent and i were going in the elevator and tommy was in there. i was kind of looking at him thinking he looked familiar. the next week i was watching G4, judgment day was on and they were at comic con. i was amazed that i saw him.

Well I thought that G4 has been shit for years but X-Play and AotS were good shows. Once Sessler and Kevin Pereira left G4, though, it died completely for me.

#20 Posted by B0nd07 (1638 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

G4 died to me a long time ago. The first two or three years were when it was at its prime. After the merger with TechTV, it was all down hill from there.

I pretty much got my start at forum posting thanks to G4 (first place I used this username). I even went to the Dew Den (hosted in part by G4) a few times at the Mall of America back in '03 in hopes of making it through the tournaments to make it onto G4tv.com (the old talk show).

#21 Posted by SynticV1 (53 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

The channel died years ago, but the community stuck around. Outside of the X-Play/Attack of the Show crowd, the forums stayed pretty tight nit. I was a member from 2002 and made a lot of friends from just the boards/meetups. We're all pretty much glad that they are finally killing off the channel that has mocked us for the past 5 years.

#22 Posted by Irvandus (2274 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

Couldn't care less.

#23 Posted by thebunnyhunter (688 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

I liked Attack of the Show years ago, something good to have on in the background, but i haven't thought of that show or the entire channel since 2008

Oh now that's just mean to Lucifer.

I remember reading an old EGM where they mentioned the creation of an "ALL VIDEO GAME" channel. At the time I was so excited I almost BURST. The launch lineup of shows seemed to start in earnest. Some hit, many missed. I, like many others on this thread, loved Cinematech as well. That show was just fucking cool. Then soon enough, the cops/cheaters/ninja warrior era happened and it was all over. It didn't matter if Xplay was a great show, the rest of the station (including AOTS and Codemonkeys) just dragged it down further. G4, rest in peace, because you did try in the beginning but your downfall was inevitable. Now I will pour out a 40.

#26 Posted by Apparatus_Unearth (2740 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

I remember discovering it it back around 2003-4? Shit was awesome. The shows were actually fun to watch. Good X-Play episodes, Filter, Cheat, G4TV.com, Cinematech, Sweat, Players, JUDGMENT DAY, Arena, Portal, Blister. Entertaining shows.

ZDTV For Life!

Fuck G4.

I am pretty sure they will keep doing that, even after the change... since that is what modern men want...

#29 Posted by zombiepenguin9 (206 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

G4 killed TechTV. My favorite show, The Screen Savers, was on TechTV.

I have no feelings of sympathy for G4.

#30 Posted by TheVeteran13 (989 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

What their awesome lineup of original programming such as Hurl!, Code Monkeys and Campus PD failed to entertain the masses?

#31 Posted by MistaSparkle (2068 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

G4 was a great idea, just executed horribly.

#32 Posted by musclerider (542 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

Not going to lie, Icons was my JAM.

The perils of aiming network TV at an audience that is savvy enough to not bother with network TV.

Well X-Play lasted for a long time and was ok to watch during the first couple years, so I would call it a success. It was more that they had nothing else to put on all day besides crap car shows, Cops reruns and Ninja Warrior.

#35 Posted by LooseChange (1692 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

I liked that MMO show and that competitive gaming show they had and Electric Playground was pretty cool. That chick from the Real World was on it eventually.. Cheaters was neat.. hell the entire OG programming wasn't so bad. Just went down the shitter after what? 05? 06?

Oh well.

#36 Posted by HumanityPlague (245 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

It seems like every year or so, they get a new head of programming who thinks he can turn the network around in 6 months. Then he falls flat on his ass, because they had no money to actually make programming.

Regardless of that, with their new reboot, I hope, HOPE, they can keep the same 3 to 6 hours of Cops reruns, that they show every day. Yes, they're really trying their hardest with that.

I did a blog about how shitty G4 was, 2 years ago (here) and it's shockingly only gotten worse. Now the few half-decent personalities have left (Sessler, Hardwick, Pereira) and they're too incompetent to replace them. They think that just hiring semi-attractive, cheap, empty-headed women is somehow going to make people watch and/or care about their complete failure of a network. Good luck with that.

I came in here to say exactly that, but with more profanity.

Meh. I liked G4 in parts. I liked it when Adam was allowed to do his thing and the early part of Feedback was a really awesome show.

#40 Posted by Quarters (900 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

Wow, really? For some reason, kind of bums me out. They weren't great, but they were one of the few(if not only) of their kind. Wouldn't be surprised if they somehow linked up with Spike, though.

LEO LAPORTE AND KATE BOTELLO ARE THE ONLY TRUE SCREEN SAVERS! Also Call for Help actually taught me about computers at like 15. Oh, to be young and have super obscure satellite channels again.

Anyhoosit. I'm actually surprised the channel managed to last as long as it did. I can't imagine the amount of viewers that Pereira and Sessler (mainly Sessler) were responsible for bringing in, and maintaining. But, given that there was an absolute hot mess of management and programming (I'm guessing. Sessler seems to hint at it, as he seems unironically ecstatic to be out of a job a few months ago), and the fact that gamers don't really watch the TeeVee anymore(?)... this sort of thing had to happen. Sign of the times and whatnot.

Still, in that first week of the G4/TechTV merger, they played Armitage III. That was pretty sweet.

#42 Posted by Duskwind (135 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

Cinematech was the best thing on G4, and they got rid of it. Can't say I'm sad to see them go.

#43 Posted by Kaiserreich (330 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

That's what you get for destroying TechTV bastards!

#44 Edited by MrKlorox (11079 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

It's about time they tried to change again. But I have a feeling it won't get less sleazy with the GQ deal, just more douchey. RIP TechTV

edit: Though I have to say that without G4 and AOTS I would have never learned about Jeff Gerstmann and On the Spot; and thus wouldn't have given a damn about Gerstmanngate and wouldn't have made it to GiantBomb (at least when I did).

#45 Edited by aurahack (2031 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

G4 died when they stopped airing Icons.

#46 Posted by DeathbyYeti (715 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

Did Adam Sessler get a chance to break his contract? A few months ago? Okay burn it all down

#47 Posted by ozzdog12 (815 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

@DoctorDanger99: G4/Tech TV died when Kevin Rose left Attack of the Show. Then the entire network died when KP and Adam Sessler left. So as far as I'm concerned it been dead awhile

#48 Posted by jakob187 (20658 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

I guess this explains KP and Sess leaving.

#49 Posted by TooWalrus (11799 posts) - 8 months, 10 days ago

G4 had reliable streams of the E3 press conferences...

That's about it.
