What?
How do you think you are able to eat the fish sticks on the dinner table? They are food...
No, that's horseshit. We have been fishing for thousands of years. We gotta eat. And other animals eat other animals, so i think it's fair we eat other animals too, so they don't get overgrouped.
Some people say keeping a pet dog or cat is animal cruelty.
Most fishing, you catch them through their lip which is just a thin bit of tissue, the pain probably no more than getting your ear pierced, they get a free meal of bread or a worm and everyone's happy. As long as you aren't catching Carp and then poking their eyes with screwdrivers I don't see it as animal cruelty at all. Fishing for food is fine too because you're doing the exact same thing as before but you twat them on the head which kills them quickly. I don't really like the idea of suffocating the fish to death by just tossing them in a bag but oh well.

I'm fine with fishing to eat but fishing for fun is fucked up.
Yeah, it's quite boring.@InternetCrab said:

If I fish for sport I always return the fish to the water. But I don't think killing an animal for food constitutes animal cruelty. I have to admit though, I don't really care much for animals in general; I don't enjoy watching animals suffer but I won't be like some animal lovers that seem to value animal life at the same level as human life. That's just disgusting.
I like to think you have been waiting years for the appropriate moment to post the link to that article. Are you asking if fish feel pain? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/2983045.stm

Its relaxing more than anything. Good for quiet mornings. Its arguably less boring than golf at least.
And as long as your not going out of your way to harm the fish, its not cruel, just catch the fish, and put it out before it suffocates is the best way I suppose.
It's no different to killing a pig or a cow for food. Whether you consider that animal cruelty or not is up to the individual. I really hate vegetarians who eat fish. You either eat dead animals or you don't. It's either cruel or it isn't. There is no middle ground where you can eat some dead animals but not others.
Um... i don't care let people do what they want... i don't think fish are smart enough to actually realize what pain is so even if they feel it i don't feel bad about it. If Fish reproduce in AMAZINg rates so go ahead and kill as many as you want.

What's fucked up about fishing? People have such double standards, cage farming is far more cruel than fishing is. The fish doesn't feel a huge amount of pain (I've accidentally hooked myself in the past and I was just fine) and if you're doing it right you kill the fish immediately if you intend to eat it.
I get what you're saying man but that is the reality of getting meat to eat. When you go to a grocery store how do you think they got the meat that is being sold? If it really bothers you you may want to change your personal diet to reflect your beliefs. But, to me, cruelty is a much larger step beyond killing the animal. For example, I would consider veal to be a type of animal cruelty. Those young calves aren't allowed to live a normal life up until they are slaughtered and turned into meat humans eat. They are tortured until they are slaughter. So, to me, torturing an animal before you kill it, or killing it by ridiculous means (like starving it), is cruel. Fishermen do neither of these things. I know that when I used to fish we would keep the fish in a water bucket and when it came time to kill them we would break their necks. It was incredibly fast, lasting less then a few seconds, and was as humane as killing an animal can get.@JasonR86 said:
@Hardgamer: ...dude what? No, no it isn't. What do you think fishermen do with the fish after they catch them? It's not like they torture them. They kill them as fast as is feasible. It is no more then any other means of gathering meat to eat.Well, it's just that killing fish seems so wrong.
My pop (Grandpa) is a hardcore fisherman, I mean this guy can catch a fucking whale with a toothpick. Anytime I go fishing with him he would make sure to kill the fish as soon as you take it out of the water by cracking it's neck with his finger, of course this would cause some pain to the fish but within a minute the fish was dead.
So of course it could be considered a form of cruelty but god damn, fisherman are not out to harm fish or to cause pain. Just watch some videos of Bear Bile farms and point your attention that way because that is the real animal cruelty in this world.
The continuation of mass fishing is slowly depleting our world food resources, think of how many fish in that net are actually still alive compared to the ones thrown back into the ocean. It's much easier to control pig, cow population because it's controlled, fishing in my mind is not.
theres farmed fishing but they taste bad... it has a weird chemical aftertaste. meh, most of them are going to die out anyways because of the ocean's increasing albedo...The continuation of mass fishing is slowly depleting our world food resources, think of how many fish in that net are actually still alive compared to the ones thrown back into the ocean. "I'm fine with fishing to eat" Did you miss that part?
people who fish then throw them back into the sea and are like see I'm a good dude letting them live.
fuck off. either eat the godamn fish after quickly putting it out of its misery or don't fish at all.

No.
It's delicious.
@CaLe: consciousness no. If fish isn't cruel then all fish would be fair game, yet people have a problem with shark and tuna fishing practices. If cows aren't cruel why arent all mammals fair game? We eat alot of warm blooded creatures that not only are conscious, but have feelings and emotions. Birds to a lesser extent are still eaten on the whole with little regard to more than the endangered species. Meat is murder no matter how you slice it. Sweet delicious murder. Some animals are smarter than others. Don't be such a pig martyr.
