Yes, Pluto is a planet. I will fight you to the death if you disagree.
Is Pluto a planet?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
No. Pluto is a dwarf planet, not a planet. There is no debate in the astronomical community... anymore. Science is a majoritarian system, not a democratic system (to quote The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe).
" @MattyFTM said:And how rare you like your steak, I assume." It depends which definition of planet you use. "and who you talk to "
I did an Astronomy module this year in my Physics course at University, and no Pluto is not a planet it is a dwarf planet. Beyond the orbital range of Pluto there are lots of other orbiting bodies of rocks (some are even larger than Pluto!) so the reason for Pluto's rejection from the prestige of "Planet" status is simply that we don't have to include another 30 or so other planets and then have to teach our children a stupidly complex remembering acronym.

What Is a Planet Today?
According to the new definition, a full-fledged planet is an object that orbits the sun and is large enough to have become round due to the force of its own gravity. In addition, a planet has to dominate the neighborhood around its orbit.
Pluto has been demoted because it does not dominate its neighborhood. Charon, its large "moon," is only about half the size of Pluto, while all the true planets are far larger than their moons.
In addition, bodies that dominate their neighborhoods, "sweep up" asteroids, comets, and other debris, clearing a path along their orbits. By contrast, Pluto's orbit is somewhat untidy.

" I believe it's planet even though astonomers try to say otherwise due to it's size. "The only reason pluto is considered a planet is because it was discovered first, and they just assumed it was. In actuality, there are many objects of similar size in the Oort Cloud. Basically, there is nothing interesting or special about Pluto other than it was found first and therefore given a name. Sad for pluto, but it works better for the solar system because now we have 4 planets, asteroid field, 4 more planets =P
I think its pretty unfair on Pluto, i mean for years people called it a planet then woah all of a sudden it isnt good enough. Discrimination I think, Martin Luther King or Ghandi would not stand for this. So in short. Whatever keeps you breathing, its a has been planet. Meaning both answers a and b are correct?
Shoot me if im wrong :D
The officials say it isn't, so it isn't. I even bought a t-shirt with this on it to remember it by. It doesn't really fit anymore though.
