John Hughes Is Dead...
" not this shit again. Ah christ at this rate we wont have any left. "And the age their going too. I mean you got guys like Clint Eastwood making movies left right and centre (and good ones still). Isn't Alan Alda still on TV? None of the really prominent instances so far really make you think: Well they were old I guess it was just their time to go.
let that be a lesson to you people... don't let yourself go.
also, look at the first post on that link. lol
The great thing is now that we're all getting old and the people who were part of our youth tend to be a couple decades older than we are, prominent deaths that mean something to _us_ will only continue to increase until eventually we're checking the obituary on a daily basis for familiar names.
Time to whip out all the JH flicks this weekend. *sigh*
(By the way, I couldn't find this post by searching. Love GB and all, but the forum layout and lack of useful search is really sad. It's like a fancy Matt's WWW Board from about 1997.)

You've damned Clint Eastwood, and therefore you've damned us all.
"Apparentley, he hasn't directed a movie since '91. Still sucks, though. "This. Anything I could add right now would be distateful.
Completely different sort of movies." I always mix him up with John Holmes. "
Anyhow, growing up, John Hughes was a staple of teen films for my friends and I. We'd pile into someone's car on the weekend and go see The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, or Ferris Bueller. His movies probably rank among the most memorable for my generation. It's sad to see a film maker die so young, but such is the nature of life. I don't know if I will watch anything specific this weekend in remembrance, but I will continue to count Christmas Vacation ans Planes, Trains & Automobiles as holiday classics worthy of standing alongside It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol.
1) Long Duk Dong
2) His portrayal of blacks and hispanics
Though he did give us "The Breakfast Club", which exposed the high school pecking order no matter what race or socio-economical background you came from. But he was an upper-middle class white writer who wrote for upper-middle class white people, which I don't have a problem with....unless he starts portraying those people outside his comfort zone as thugs, thieves, and/or hungry for any white woman in sight.
Damn. He was one great film maker. Anyone else remember Planes, Trains and Automobiles? Even with the other more popular movies he directed that is by far my favorite movie with the John Hughes name on it. RIP
" @CitizenKane said:And don't you forget it! :P" I will watch The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller's Day Off this weekend in his honor. "Evil nazi Mod. "
Eh, I liked Ferris Bueller, but besides that, his movies are too dated for me to like outside of the time period they were released. Had he made stuff like Weird Science or The Breakfast Club a bit more universal and time-transcending (i.e. cut the '80s fashion out of it, '80s music out of it), then it would've been nice. Unfortunately, just not happening for me.
Nonetheless, it's still a sad loss to see come along.
