Conservatism by and large, would also hold no qualms in stopping the moral degradation of society by outlawing social ills such as pornography.

In fact the only brand of conservatism, and in modern times it's a loosely associated branch are the Libertarians, who would hold that such moral decisions need to be made at the individual level.

It's called censorship. Even though this may not be nation-breaking, the attitude you have towards it is just encouraging it. Who knows what they'll censor next? "
Yeah that's right! What gives that the government can censor me from my hate speech?!  Banning porn sounds almost impossible and laughable. Even with a censored state like China there's some loopholes that the locales can work around to getting information. "
Banning hate speech and entertainment are two entirely different things and shouldn't even be compared. "
Maybe I should have put in sarcasm tags.

Porn is not that big of a deal guys.

Everyone looks at it.  Everyone looked at it when they were kids.

You people ranting on the harm it does to society sound like those anti-video game nutjobs.

This kind of thing was on my phone when I first got it, and I had to opt out.

Never watched porn on my iPhone, but it just blocked everything, and apps wouldn't work properly.

Felt really sleezy going into the vodaphone store to get it taken off too.

It's almost like no one reads the article and continues to just go by the misleading topic title. They aren't banning anything, they don't give a shit about porn. What it amounts to is putting a Google safe search on the ISP and allowing users to turn it off if they want to or keep it on because there's porn everywhere (yes, even if you pay attention to your children's internet habits they'll still see porn) because it's the internet.

You really have no clue do you? This isn't socialism, it's not even close. If you wanted to class it as anything it would be social conservatism, you know the same people who didn't want rock and roll, violent films, gay marriage, swearing on TV, porn in the newsagents or sex on TV. They people who support these things and fought against the liberalisation of our country were for the most part Conservatives.

One MP is proposing this - it has a long way to go before it actually passes. And to be fair, the idea of an ISP level block to stop inappropriate content ending up in the hands of children isn't a fundamentally bad idea. The current proposals don't seem to be the ideal way of going about this, but they're in the very early stages and will go through multiple revisions and improvements before it becomes law, if that ever happens at all. It's not even close to actually happening.

As always, the media is using attention grabbing headlines over a story that is hardly worth reporting at all.

I remember the days when you were lucky if you found a free 30 second preview online, let alone streaming a full feature-length AAA Porn Parody in HD for free. Fuckin kids these days don't know how lucky they are.

And yeah, it's just a plan, I'm sure it'll get enough men sweating that it won't happen.

State control is inherently socialist. I take it you weren't paying much attention during the past 13 years when the socialist Labour government banned smoking, tobacco advertising, handguns, fox hunting, doing anything at all to your home unless the councils lets you, letting you car pool to take kids to school or football games without a CRB check, made the UK the country with the most CCTV on the planet, tried to introduce a nationwide system of ID cards, doubled alcohol duty "to curb the binge drinking problem", added the congestion charge, created the M4 bus lane, created a four THOUSAND page manual for headteachers, banned apple bobbing and replaced face with chopsticks because it "spread germs"... should I go on? It's got nothing to do with liberalism/conservatism, it's authoritarianism/libertarianism.

This internet ban is impossible to implement anyway, it's just an idea that got thrown into the media ballpark to gauge the public reaction.

You don't seem to know what the word Socialist or it's use in political terms means, all the things you have mentioned are an increase in state control, nothing exactly new, which can easily occur with a  socialist or conservative government. Also Labour haven't been a socialist party since 1996.

more state money = more state control, it's very simple. Labour don't like to call themselves socialist but it's blindingly obvious when you look at everything tney've done - How isn't it socialist to go "these people are poor. Obviously not because they're thick, or because they spent the time they could have spent making something of their lives in the pub, so let's give these poor victims of circumstance MORE TAX MONEY!!"?

People would like conservatives more if they were just honest and ran their campaigns on the idea that all poor people are stupid and/or lazy drunks.

Stupidity that will never be enforced for a multitude of reasons. not to mention the hundreds of millions taxing porn brings in every year and the fact the ISPs do what they want.

And you can't black every pornographic site on the internet, it's a complete impossibility. Thats why they're working on establishing the new XXX root domain.

Wrong.  But in the US, we don't have to call up the cable company and say "Ya know what, I don't have kids, or I trust my kids not to "accidentally" stumble across the porn channels.  Can you turn them on please?"
