Pick your poison: Anime or Wrestling

Anime, not my choice though, you made me choose.

Wrestling = Anime = Superhero Comics = Soap Operas

I stopped watching wrestling about 2 years ago. There just wasn't enough good stuff to keep me interested. Anime I watch every now and then and some of it is pretty cool.

This is the most disappointing poll result in human history.

Been getting back into anime recently after not caring for almost a decade, mostly stupidly awesome stuff like Jojo and Kill La Kill. Wrestling is something that I've always appreciated through approximation. I love hearing people talk about wrestling, and watching clips of wrestling and the like. But I never actually want to sit down and watch it by myself.

When wrestling anime is far more entertaining than wrestling itself, the choice really isn't hard to make. Also giant robots.

I used to love wrestling, but at one point I just kinda stopped watching all together and have never gone back. Heh, I still remember the days of playing Gamecube wrestling games and tag teaming with my friends and just beating the fuck out of wrestlers we didn't like. Tombstone piledriving from on top of the cage and down into the ring? That was good shit.

I voted Anime, even though I don't follow many series currently.

Neither. I liked both as a kid (10-14 years old), and then grew out of both completely.

I suppose if you twisted my arm...I would watch wrestling over anime. I can at least get ironic enjoyment out of wrestling, while anime will serve no other purpose than to thoroughly annoy me. I'm getting irritated just thinking about it.

Oh yeah, it's fantastic. It's one of my go-to movies for any friends looking into entering the world of Anime.

Ando Masahiro and Bones are amazing at fight choreography, arguably the best in the business.

This is the reality of the situation. Maybe some things need to be re-examined.

Seriously though, while I enjoy listening to the Powerbombcast, I can't find anything redeemable about wrestling outside of maybe they'll do some cool acrobatic stuff...maybe. With anime, at least there's the potential for good storytelling, animation, music, action, etc. Anime is even a better suit for the "dumb" variety of fun that wrestling seems to be known for.

I like The Castle Of Cagliostro link more than Sword of a Stranger

To say wrestling doesn't have the potential for good storytelling is just sheer ignorance. It's the same kind of reductive nonsense as saying all anime is slice of life bullshit with no meaningful storylines. Sure, there are a lot of really dumb and really bad things in both, every so often you get something like Grave of the Fireflies or The Rock vs Austin at WM17 that is just so far above everything that is makes it easy to ignore the dark spots.

I think you're insanely out of your element if you think for one second that there has never been one good moment of storytelling within any pro wrestling organization.

yeah the animation in alot of anime is complete dogshit. No anime can compare to last nights wrestlemaina in terms of excitement. (maybe one piece but the manga is so much better than the anime.)

I like both, but I'm more into wrestling. As far as anime goes I generally only watch the more popular stuff. I feel like they're a pretty like comparison, though.

@turboman: It's not really incoherent. If you'd like me to give a serious reason for my preference of anime, then I'd point out that it's more complex. I enjoy wrestling, but I get a more varied package from anime. For example, the choreography of the action is allowed to be larger than life, storytelling and the range of emotions it can evoke are wider.

Wrestling is simple. I either laugh at the dumbness of it all or exclaim at the impressive work in the ring. Wrestling has never made me think about a subject or my life in any meaningful way, except for the occasional 'Why do I even bother watching it still??"

me too anime sucks american cartoons are way better.

Both are likely fine even if I don't care much about Anime

I'm honestly a little surprised about the poll results, considering how the wrestling thread consistently beat the anime one in views.

Though I don't really post there anymore, so perhaps most anime voters aren't either.

It's because Anime fans are rightly ashamed to discuss it in public but are more than happy to hide behind the privacy of a poll in order to get their views across. :P

Apart from Alexandersheen's description, I didn't know anything about the show. I'm at work, so clicking on a link with the words "naked female wrestling" within the link's vicinity was not a wise idea. I risked it for the review, and it was worth it.

Also, c'mon, Jesus, guys, wrestling and anime are both generally things you watch because you want something stupid and you don't have a girlfriend, or you're incredibly lucky and you have a girlfriend that's equally as sad very understanding of your interests. We don't need to be mean to each other!

Neither. I'm not hateful towards the fans or creators, but everything about Anime disgusts my senses, and wrestling is silly.

There is an AWFUL lot of shit anime series - it's wall to wall shite sometimes. However, when you find the good stuff... its pretty darn good. I am a sci-fi / fantasy fan when it comes to books, and anime is the closest you can get to those kinds of stories on a screen. Also, the sheer amount of heart that goes into some shows (Hajime no Ippo is a good example) is truly impressive. As with any medium, there is a lot of crap but also a lot of gold.

I voted wrestling. I can't stand anime. I've tried watching it but I just cannot watch it for more than a few minutes. Wrestling is really bad, but at least it can be watchable at times.
