Usage of the word "hun"

I don't really see or hear it used that often. But yesterday as I was playing ssf4, I got beat convincingly by an A rank Chunli, and he/she messaged saying "gg hun". Now... I didn't really know whether he/she was trying to be nice, or just trying to be diminutive to me. Then I realized, that for some reason I've always pictured the word "hun" as being spoken by a female. I also imagine the speaker flicking there wrist while saying it, like when people say "oh you ;)" So I'm at a loss, I don't really know what to make of this word's meaning/connotation and how to take that chun-player's message.

Hun should be used only by women, usually those with Southern, homely vibes, especially those who are waitresses, and are looking for a tip.

I don't like it if it's said by strangers. It's patronising and belittling.

I've met some people who have used that word a lot as if it was a period. Usually they're older women.

I've never seen a guy say "hun". "

A lot of older people use the term "hun" (for honey). People older than me and I'm 30... so these guys are really fuckin old.

Mostly women say, "hun." If a guy says it, it's because they are talking to a lady friend, and I've never really heard that term being used in a negative fashion, mainly because there's nothing negative about it. If anything, it is a friendly and comforting term. "

I hate when old women I don't like call me "hun".  Always seem to use it when they want to talk down to you.  Back and forth between lovers I hear it a lot around here though and it's fine that way.

The only time hun should be used is by a waitress at a shitty diner.

That's always been a term of endearment from girlfriends and friends of the female persuasion. 

Its about as bad as "yous" ie: can i get yous anything hun?

Chances are, unless they are the matronly type, it was them being bitchy. Or it was secretly your special someone. 
But then, bitchy is usually something that comes from losers, not winners. So maybe it was just a friendly remark.

i thought it was for southerners that are waitress. at dinners the girls always say hun. "here you go hun".

Only fat, middle-aged, and older women use hun.

well that's certainly civil, yup and you'd be right way too often.  It really is the absolute worst lol, but I guess the whole cali culture doesn't help the situation. "

I've heard it used between married couples as a shortened, "Honey". In your case, he/she might have been talking down to you. Not necessarily maliciously, just sort of, "Ah, you did your best, hun". Still annoying as hell if that's the case though.
