This is a list of my top 5 best games that I haven’t played until this year. These wonderful games have certainly made 2010 more bearable and fun for me! It feels great to be a gamer!
-Please note that I do not have an XBOX360 or PS3, so all these games listed are Nintendo... 2 of them can both be Nintendo and PC.
5. Bejeweled 2 – This game is beautiful, addictive, and memorable. Bejeweled 2 is my most favorite puzzle game, next to Tetris. Like Tetris, it has great replayability, a nice soundtrack, and it’s just as addictive. There isn’t really too much more I can say about this game, but it’s actually good enough to be my 5th best game that I’ve played this year.
4. Cave Story – This is a game that I didn’t think I would like. Well, I was wrong about that. I ended up loving it! As to why I love this game, I don’t know if it’s where the creator of this game put a lot of love into it, or if it’s where I have a certain love of the older way of gaming, or if it’s just where I so desperately needed to play a 2D side-scrolling adventure at the time when I played it. All I know is that this game is an overlooked masterpiece. There are a lot of people that don’t know of this game, and they desperately need to know about it if they like games that are similar to this. It just goes to show you that hard work can pay off if you do the work right, and great games don’t have to be expensive, or even cost anything at all. Cave Story is easily one of the best games that I’ve played all year.
3. Super Mario Galaxy 2 – It shouldn’t really be a shock as to why this game isn’t on the top of my list. Compared to the next two listed, it’s nowhere near the status of being as memorable or gratifying. Now don’t get me wrong, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a really fun and it’s great game, but as I said it before, I feel that there may not be much of a future for 3D Mario games after this. Growing up with playing Mario games and all, I can say that this isn’t my most favorite adventure of his at all; although, it is a very memorable and fun adventure that is definitely like no other. The game isn’t really as difficult or magical as I would like it to be, but it’s good enough to be a good Mario game that I can consider as a masterpiece. I really enjoyed playing this game during the summer, and it was well worth playing. The one thing I liked about this game compared to the last one are the boss fights and the quirkiness. Despite the flaws that Super Mario Galaxy 2 has, it has respectfully earned the number 3 spot of the top 5 games that I have played this year.
2. Donkey Kong Country Returns – One of my most favorite franchises has been resurrected in this well made re-imagined sequel to the old Rare classics. Having grown up with loving the SNES classics of Donkey Kong Country, seeing Donkey Kong Country Returns in existence is really a gratifying treat that sends me back to my childhood. The environments, the wonderful design ideas, the old and new music (especially the old), and the quality of the boss fights and levels are things that have caught my utmost attention and interest. It’s automatically an instant classic that has left an impression on me, and it’s going to last for a very long time. It shouldn’t be too shocking if ya’ll were to see a theme from this game in one of my music blogs that I create every so often. = - P I really want to see a Donkey Kong Country Returns 2! Hearing the Sticker Brush Symphony, Kannon’s Claim, and Forest Interlude themes re-imagined would send me into orbit! Right now though, I can easily settle with the re-done Life in the Mines, Forest Frenzy, and Jungle Hijinx themes! Donkey Kong Country Returns easily gets my number 2 spot.
1. Chrono Trigger DS – This extraordinary RPG is something that I’ve overlooked for years. I might not of liked the game when it first released considering that I was young then, but now that I’m older and more knowledgeable, Chrono Trigger has become one of my most favorite games! From the incredible soundtrack, retro graphics, outstanding game-play, and memorable story-line, it’s really not possible for me to dislike this game. I literally went to hell and back, and every place in between, looking for this game at a modest price of $20. I can say that the game to me is worth more than $20, but I’m more than glad that I got it at the price I did considering that I love bargains! What turned out to be seemingly boring turned out to be something quite extraordinary that was unfairly ignored on my part. For all these reasons, it is the reason why Chrono Trigger DS is the best game that I’ve played this year. I wouldn’t really mind trying out Chrono Cross for the Playstation, if I had a Playstation. I know that it may not be as good as Chrono Trigger, but from what I heard it’s supposed to be really, really good.
*EDIT: Honorable mention: Rayman 2: The Great Escape. Thanks for reading and until next time (whenever that maybe),
