Well, you could ask around wherever you found it and see if anyone reports losing a watch.  You'd have to ask them to describe it and tell you the make/model.  That would be the "right" thing to do with something expensive.  Otherwise...

 Psst...try eBay

I was about to say this earlier on but I didn't think they were still around.

Whatevers in it, otherwise $50,000+ if you manage to get some ransom out of it somehow (and maybe 5 years in prison if you're too slow).

Why don't you go and hand it in at the police station and then come back for it if no one claims it, like you know... a nice person?

He did say he found it on the street. Depending on the street, it's probably highly unlikely he'll be able to find the owner. I wouldn't just assume that his intentions are entirely malicious.

Your advice on how to ask around is absolutely right though =) It'd be way too easy for someone to say "Oh yeah, I lost a watch. Can I see it? Oh yeah, that's totally mine. It was a gift from my grandma. It was. I swear."

I didnt find it on a residential street I found it on younge street wich happens to be one of the longest streets in the world so how am i supposed to find the owner? Im either going to sell it or throw it back on the street and let so one else find it. Its not like its a purse or a wallet.

@cinemandrew:  Yeah, it wasn't my intention to imply anything malicious on his part.  I just wanted to offer a gentle reminder that if he hadn't at least attempted (if the option existed) finding out if someone reported losing that specific watch, he should try to do that before making a buck off it.  If you've ever lost something and were then able to retrieve it do to some thoughtful soul, then you know that positive feeling of relief.  Oh and I thought the image was just funny in a "Hey, buddy...Wanna buy a watch? You want Rolex, I got Solex, is better than Rolex!" way.

Hahahahahahaha, Oh god, that made me laugh. hooo, thanks for that.
How on earth does anyone even come close to thinking that someone from the internet could be a nice person.
I get you, that was so funny. (j/k please don't cry like most people on here who can't take a joke)

@PenguinDust: Totally get what you're saying. My fiancee forgot her cell phone at the gym a few months back, and as many opportunities as the person who picked it up had to get it back to us (He/She could have started by answering the dang thing when I called it), we never saw it again. I wasn't trying to single you out or anything, you were just the bottom post and I was lazy, and felt the need to point out (to anyone jumping to conclusions) that there were other possible scenarios.

That picture is pretty sweet though. I would totally buy a Solex from that dude.

Some people are just jealous that you found a nice watch.

If watches are your thing, wear it. If not, then sell it or give it to whomever you feel like. Being that finding the owner is virtually impossible, that watch is now your property and you can do with it as you wish.
