I picked barricade the door with the chair. If you have a door that doesn't lock, why would you take the chance of doing that when someone is home and could walk in on you?

If you got a chair on the door, worst case scenario the roommate hits the chair and you would have enough time to formulate an excuse as to why the door is blocked ( chair moved, moving furniture, etc ).
