I just finished this game and I'd have to agree with the staff on it. It is down right bonkers. Any of you duders play it after you heard about it from the GOTY stuff?

Can you explain what the appeal is? Everybody seems to be obnoxiously cryptic about what makes it so great.
EDIT: I guess I should explain that I've yet to actually listen to the GOTY podcast, and have only followed Brad's list and the guest lists.
What kind of time investment are we talking about before I start to understand? I'm kind of wrapped up in Guardians of Middle-earth right now.@Spoonman671 said:

less than an hour (40-60 minutes if you get caught up where I did)

yepppppp (specifically I did that without help but couldn't figure out the purple goop)
It suddenly became a bullet-hell game before I experienced half of what they described in the Bombcast, so I s'pose it didn't blow me away they way it probably should've.

Yeah I kept typing turn on spigot and it was all "YO THIS IS A SPACE MACHINE YOU JUST DON'T TURN IT ON!"
I played this today. I do not want to play video games anymore. I feel as I have seen all the secrets possessed by this universe.
I heard about it from the idle thumbs podcast a little while ago - its a wonderful little game though and the more people play it the better, it just keeps spiralling into crazy :D
I played it, got up to the text adventure. Yes, the game is pretty good due to just how bizarre it is. That said, I still don't see how it can make its way onto GOTY lists. It's appeal lies in the randomness you experience on your first play through. But unless the parts I have yet to get up to have any actual quality to them aside from weirdness that hinges on non-sequitrs, then the only reason it's receiving such attention is just due to recency bias.
Played through it today. It was pretty cool and I can definitely see why the giantbomb staff would put it on a list.

I played it before but I didn't know about D, tehn I listened the podcast, they mention it... MAN.
MAN.
so good.
minting all of the zorkmids.
Me too, I didn't even figure out that you could move up and down with the dragon. Once I found out I paused the podcast and went andf played it again.
It's way better when you're not just uninstalling and reinstalling the lock-on endlessly.

Yes! That's also where I got stuck. Ended up spending an hour on it (the whole experience, not just that part), all in all. I think I made the right choice to pause to GOTY podcast, go play it, and then come back. What a wacky little game. I think the boxing monologue is still the craziest fucking part, when all is said and done, which is saying a lot. Everything else kind of makes sense in context, I think? But that voiceover while you are swimming through the water is just SOOOOOOO far out of left field.

I got stuck in the uninstall/reinstall loop initially up until the point where the text in the upgrade says something along the lines of "how long do you think the frog will put up with the status quo?", and then I started thinking outside the box. I'm kinda curious about how far the upgrade menu goes, I'm sure the flavor text in there is only more ridiculous.
I broke the game, as it froze up on me :D I didn't initially get the hook, but gave it a bit and started to like it more. It's pretty tough to play well on a laptop trackpad though.
EDIT: Ok it unfroze, and I got to finish it. Love the randomness.

My favorite bit was when you realized the bug porn game didn't fucking matter and you could just print all the goddamn money you wanted to win. HAHAHA.

Haha, that's delightful. Thanks! I'm actually surprised that the game doesn't get explicit about what to do at any point.

Got to the text adventure part. I didn't know what to do with the bare wire that will start a fire so I can't go to sleep and return to Bug Mars or whatever.
I actually liked the text adventure part. :( Really super weird game. I'm not sure I'd put it on a GOTY list, but I'm glad I got to play it.
Does anyone know what happens if you catch the falling wrapped gift box? I missed every single one and didn't want to replay it.
This game made no sense.
And yet, somehow, it feels like it made more sense than any game I've played in a long time.
The courtoom thing - is that supposed to be a riff on Phoenix Wright?

I figured it was just a riff on visual novels, but it's probably closer to phoenix wright
Played it. Beaten it without help. Good fun but I can't see how it's strong enough to get into some people's GoTY lists personally. Just my absolutely subjective opinion on it though and people should give it a go.
i don't know how something so insane kept such a low profile. i thought i'd seen everything...and then WHOOPS ddr dance off.
these dudes should do a kickstarter for a steam sequel. i'd throw him $10-15 bones, no question.
