What was the first game you owned for your old school Game Boy?  For me it was Toy Story.  I got the game and thought it was to hard.  Went to Walmart the next day and exchanged it for Super Mario Land 2.  So, what was your first Game Boy game?

I miss this bad boy.

Probably.  :P

For my first real, non-pack-in game, Super Mario Land. So really, not much of a difference.

Optimistically, maybe you'll get some little brothers who got the hand-me-down with something different.  Then you've got garage sales, flea markets, and late bloomer e-bay buyers.

If it isn't Mario or Tetris I would be quite interested to hear their first impressions of the system.

BIG EDIT:  Fucking forgot about Pokemon before the deluge comes :)

I don't remember the first game I owned but I kind of remember the first games I played on my uncles Game Boy. They were Terminator 2 and a Final Fantasy game.

One of the first games I got after I got my game boy was Pokemon Red.

True.  For the best first impression, it's all about the first game they play.

Someone stole my Pokemon Yellow. I did find out who the culprit was and I made him pay.

Well my first game was Tetris as it came with the gameboy. The first game I bought was probably Mario Land.

If we're counting Game Boy Color, it was Pokemon yellow. I never had the original Game Boy.

Tetris and battletoads, and battletoads was a fucking hard game, holy shit I used to get so pissed off as a kid at it.

Kirby's Dream Land, then Pokemon Blue.

I got mine when Pokemon came out.

I actually didn't have the original game boy either (although I eventually got one for some reason) but I had the Game Boy Pocket. Why the hell is there no GB Pocket page here on giantbomb?

For early adopters, it was Tetris.

That includes my family.

However, my favourite GameBoy games are Metroid II and Mario Land 2.

megaman Xtreme!

you could tell it was extreme because of the absence of the E on the front.

Game Boy Pocket is just a redesign of the original Game Boy so, it doesn't have it's own page for that reason.

Yeah, I guess. It was a pretty good redesign though. The thing fit in your pocket.

Yes it was.  My dad got one but, I used it most of the time till I accidentally broke it......

Not a clue.

Maybe Pokemon.

#28 Posted by Suicrat (3764 posts) -

I don't know about you guys. But my pockets can actually fit an original GameBoy. (I know this not because I still have one, which I don't, but because side pockets in three pairs of pants that I own can fit my Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy).

Not gonna pretend it was small as the GameBoy Pocket itself, but it's not as mammoth as people remember.

GameGear on the other hand....

I had the original gameboy in red with kirby's dreamland.

Bundled with Tetris. I hate Tetris. But I soon got to play Super Mario Land and Wario Land and Probotector and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (basically the first Mana, Seiken Densetsu, so nothing like the SNES Mystic Quest) and Mortal Kombat II and other awesome games courtesy of my cousin who had his Game Boy long before me. I never got to play the likes of Pokemon for some reason, it's been so long I don't remember why. Perhaps it broke or got lost during a move. My first experiences I actually do remember vividly came much later, with the SEGA Saturn <3

Super Mario Land for my Red Gameboy Pocket... which I don't have anymore. :(

I bought one just for that.

Pokemon Blue :)  I sunk countless hours into that cartridge.

Super Mario Land. Although I wish it was Blue, could have played it more than I already have, which is a lot.

Yeah mine had to be pokemon red, but it was weird I got pokemon and two days later i got the yellow game boy color

Tetris obviously.

I still have my original Gameboy and yes, it still works.  My first game after Tetris would have been either The Amazing Spiderman (awesome) or Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (still awesome).

the first game system that i ever had (if you consider the game boy a system) was the green game boy pocket and donkey kong country...

Kirby. I think it was Dreamland or something? Anyway I got it at Best Buy, it came in a big plastic case with the Game Boy itself, some batteries, and the Kirby game. I remember going home and pulling off my socks and then starting to play.
