Even as this generation begins to draw to a close, there are several major games on the horizon, including Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar Games has confirmed its sequel will release next spring.

Well, “expected to launch” in spring 2013. That’s the language Rockstar Games used on its website, and as a company known for delaying games until they’re good and ready, it’s not surprising.

More information on GTAV should be available soon, as it’s supposed to be on the next cover on Game Informer, and one would expect that to begin the game’s official marketing campaign.

Today's announcement only mentions Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and nothing about a PC release. Grand Theft Auto IV was released for the PC, though, as was Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire. People are still peeved about Red Dead Redemption not getting a PC release.

I really, really hope they don't skip over the PC for this game.

We don't talk about Rockstar PC ports until we finally get Red Dead.

If you zoom, in, the apple logo has been replaced with... a bowl of fruit? Something tenuously fruity, anyway.

Seems strange to literally copy the iPhone design, though. Rockstar's brand of 'satire' has always been hit or miss.

(Coming from a huge GTA fan)

So GTA V some time next year. Yeah didn't see that coming

#11 Posted by Animasta (12765 posts) - 6 months, 21 days ago

what... pattern? I don't know what pattern you are talking about scoops they've always come out later than the console version, going back to vice city.

#12 Posted by ucankurbaga (158 posts) - 6 months, 21 days ago

I hope PC comes out same time otherwise I have to......buy console version and hate you for it.

#13 Posted by matti00 (595 posts) - 6 months, 21 days ago

I hope this doesn't get delayed, otherwise it'll be released about the same time as my new son, and I'll have to pick one over the other.

Hehehe, iFruit... im sure the pc version will show up 3 to 6 months later though.. like GTA IV

@Mr_Skeleton: Her face is much more detailed than her body.

It's like they drew a body and then inserted a human face that has gone through a 'cell-shady'* filter.

*Don't know shit about graphic design jargon.

They will and have. All of the leaked fliers only had 360 and PS3 logos on them.

#22 Posted by Temg99 (11 posts) - 6 months, 21 days ago

Likely Spring will quickly be narrowed down to Mid May very soon. [My guess would be May 21st.] Same as most of the recent Rockstar Games have been. They like owning May.

Hopefully they do a true PC port. Maybe even surprise us with a Red Dead pack in for preorders [wishful thinking]

Oh man, oh man, oh man, I am so ready for this.

#24 Edited by JEC03 (873 posts) - 6 months, 21 days ago

I'm sure this will come to PC it's to big of a game not to steam sales alone is a huge profit not to mention retail too and if it doesn't I'm not buying a console for one game as much as I love the GTA series. I can wait for the PC version it just will be painful if it's a 6 month wait I hope it releases like Max Payne 3 time frame.

Doubt we will. Apparently the game is such an insane coding mess that it would be easier to simply make a new game than make sense of its guts. Sure, it sounds like an excuse, but considering the game's complicated production and Rockstar's track record with leaving shit in the files, it's probably true.

#28 Posted by ArbitraryWater (8973 posts) - 6 months, 21 days ago

This is cool, I guess. Never really been a fan of GTA.

#29 Posted by xbob42 (356 posts) - 6 months, 21 days ago

Don't care about GTA anymore. IV was disappointing on an extraordinary level while Saints Row the Third not only rose to the challenge but soared above anything GTA had ever previously accomplished.

It's really interesting to see so many huge releases piling up on spring 2013. I hope the looming next-gen wont effect the quality of these releases if publishers feel the need to rush these out before E3.

#34 Posted by TommyVercetti (7 posts) - 6 months, 21 days ago

I love the GTA franchise, and even though it's going to be an agonising wait, I'll definitely wait for the PC version. I just won't be able to enjoy it on the PS3. GTA IV was one of the main reasons a bought a PS3, but I wasn't impressed with the graphics, even by 2008 standards. I played The Lost and damned on the PS3 as well, but switched to PC for The ballad of Gay Tony, and it's so much better.

I love these games so much I'm currently replaying the entire GTA IV saga on the PC. If GTA V for the PC takes long enough, I might even play through GTA IV a third time. If for some strange reason GTA V never appears on the PC, I will never buy a Rockstar game again!

That's pretty much as non-news as it gets.

Well, at least it's official.

No PC announcement is just embarrassing these days, really. (as is not announcing it for more platforms)

anybody else think that looks like pornstar alexis texas?

If GTA V doesn't come out with a PC version, I don't care because I'll get a console just to play it. I did the same thing with GTA IV, so...

Yeah... I mean, wat?

Also as someone in a comment on IGN mentioned, the lady cop is a first. Murder equality, YAY!

Nice! As for no PC version...meh, who cares.

#42 Posted by jaks (203 posts) - 6 months, 21 days ago

With any luck the main character won't spend 20 minutes per cut scene lamenting about how he wants to just be a normal guy before going out and robbing a bank while killing 200 cops.

It's an official almost-date on what's the biggest game to come out in the last year of the current generation of consoles. I think it's as noteworthy as anything else.

In other news, I don't get people who say Saints Row renders GTA unnecessary, or words to that effect. There's plenty room in my heart for them both, at this point they really serve to entertain different parts of me, with SR3 the spiritual successor to San Andreas, big, loud & silly, & GTAV going for a more serious narrative. I'm totally happy to have both options available to me.

The only thing I want GTAV to take from Saints Row The Third is simple. If there's got to be planes then they had best be as simple to handle as the VTOL in SR3, otherwise, bugger off.

Everybody has his own opinion. While I agree the Saints Row the third has its merits in terms of sheer craziness, I think it is way behind Rockstar's sense of atmosphere, characters and storytelling. I just never developed any feelings for the characters or the environment.

Driving around in Rockstar's worlds is just like real world places that I love. Maybe I'm crazy, but Vice City really reminds me about when I used to live in South Florida many years ago. In San Andreas I really enjoyed the countryside between the three cities, and the latest incarnation of Liberty City in GTA IV is such a cool place. Steelport never did any such thing for me.

GTA IV had THE strongest modding community for any game since Half Life 2.

Not releasing V on the PC would be the dumbest move they could make. I will lose any respect I have left for R* if they do that. It's almost like they don't want to make money.

#49 Posted by altairre (667 posts) - 6 months, 21 days ago

No PC version would be a huge bummer.

Forgive me if I think a guy named Tommy Vercetti is going to be a little biased. I am not impressed at all with the environments or atmosphere in GTA games. In fact, I'd say if you want amazing atmosphere in an open-world game, get your ass into Sleeping Dogs right the fuck now.
