Group character select screens are those in which a game's selectable characters are depicted together in a shared space. They go above and beyond the purely utilitarian approach of most character select screens by offering the player more insight into how the selectable characters interact with their counterparts and the world around them.
With a group character select screen, a video game can enrich its characters' personalities and sense of place. Are they in a rowdy tavern? A tidy classroom? Or perhaps sitting around a campfire?
Additionally, how they are shown interacting with each other and the space they inhabit can inform the player on the group and personality dynamics at play with the game's selectable characters. This can enrich a player's connection to the game's characters; for example, an introverted player may be drawn to play the character shown lurking in the corner of a busy tavern scene.
