Never even heard of it until now.
Hamburger
A hamburger is a hunk of ground beef served between two pieces of bun-configured bread. Hamburgers are often served with a variety of toppings and condiments. It is named for the region in which it was invented, not for the kind of meat (as is often mistakenly suggested).
Anyone remember Taco Bell's burger?
I WANT THIS HAMBURGER IN MY STOMACH RIGHT NOW I WANT TO DIGEST IT AND POOP IT OUT AND THEN EAT ANOTHER.
Seriously. If Taco Bell still sold hamburgers I'd eat them everyday. Taco Bell gets a lot of my money these days because it's cheap and there's one within walking distance of the Starbucks I work at.
Fuck Taco Bell.
The first and only time I ate their food, I got food poisoning and spent new-years sick in bed / throwing up.
I'm quite intrigued by this. Makes me wish that there was a Taco Bell in Denmark, and that it would sell those... things.
It was around in the '70's and '80's and it was fantastic! Wish it were still around today.......It may not sound good, but it was delicious and the picture above doesn't do it justice. It was a small bun with taco meat, lettuce and tomatoes. Very tasty!!!!!
Taco John's still makes the Taco Burger and it is still great. Good luck on finding a Taco John's though.
ok - takes an 'old fart' to set this straight! yeah, they were around when I was a teenager in the early 70's. They were 'Bell Burgers', then 'Bell Beefers' and I thought they were awesome! No, really!!! Just a bun and the loose taco meat and shredded cheese - no lettuce or anything else. I guess they weren't a hit, since they've been gone a long time. There's supposed to be a Taco Bell in El Monte, Ca that still makes 'em.
i was born in 67 and i remember as early as age 10 being a taco bell junkie and we always ordered them, they were super fresh on a steamed bun with there super fine shredded cheese on them, and back then taco bell didnt use that nasty ass mush meat mixture it was just good ol hamburger with a bit of seaoning, and they used real cheese unlike that nasty stuff they serve today. they were a very popular little burger.
It's possible that the burger was demo'ed in select cities, because I don't recall anything regarding that thing.
Pardon the thread-necromancy but I'd like to corroborate both jste678 and t0yfox4me's recollections above and add a bit more info.
These were my favorite Taco Bell "entree" and were on the menu when the first Taco Bell I ever saw opened where I lived in the late sixties. At that time all of the main offerings were priced $0.29 apiece, if I recall correctly. They also had mild taco sauce in addition to the meat and cheese . I think that they were actually pretty popular as they were on the menu for about 20 years. They were dropped from the menu around the same time that the chain started using pre-cooked meat, freeze-dried beans, pre-shredded lettuce and cheese.
And yes, there is a Taco Bell on Peck in El Monte, CA that still offers them. Several other So. California establishments also offer their own versions of this delicacy.
