This is one of those games that I don't really care what reviews specifically say about the game because I intend to try it out anyways, as long as it isn't panned by most critics. Still, it is nice to see generally high scores. It is definitely a fresh change from most games available.
Heavy Rain
Game » consists of 12 releases. Released Jan 25, 2010
An interactive thriller from the studio behind Indigo Prophecy, sporting a dark storyline involving the investigation of a mysterious serial killer.
Heavy Rain Reviews Say "Hi."
I'm just hoping the story doesn't fall apart like Indigo Prophecy/Farenheit did. I liked so much of Indigo Prophecy, but the fundamental premise was about 3 bad cliches taped together with stylish presentation.
Here's hoping for the best!

" After reading this pointless argument I have to say this round goes to Mooshu. "I would say it goes to no one because only a fool takes a fool's argument.
Mooshu definitely wins that argument. Trophyhunter stop being childish.
I definitely can't see myself buying this right now especially when it's only 6 hours long. It seems like kind of a ripoff, I don't know. I know there are people in here saying "To all the skeptics, blah blah blha" but this type of game simply can't not have skeptics. It's hardly even a videogame.
I know that someone who doesn't even know about this game will see it at the store, buy it, go home and later that day will beat it and think it's shit. They will then go to blockbuster or EB or where the hell ever and trade it in, and those copies will eventually become dirt cheap beacuse to a casual gamer, this game would simply be way too short and they would be no point in keeping it. That's when I come in a few months down the road and buy it used :D

This was the big thing with the wave of interactive games I mentioned earlier that came for the CD-i, DO, Sega CD etc." I know that someone who doesn't even know about this game will see it at the store, buy it, go home and later that day will beat it and think it's shit. Stores would get the customer coming in the same day and complaining that the game they just shelled out a full games price for lasted about as long as a movie they could've rented
I'm afraid that Heavy Rain will fall into that category and be another disappointment. As I said before, I hope it will be closer to something like Shenmue or Fahrenheit rather than a Plumbers Don't Wear Ties
Scratch that. I'd love a sequel to Plumbers Don't Wear Ties.
Oh and trophyhunter, don't try to pull the "I was just trolling you!" card. You're not clever enough for that.

" @trophyhunter: We can pretty much all see through it. "my first post talking to him was the Paul F Tomkins joke about jazz that he didn't get and thought I was being serous.
Concerning the Destructoid review: All choices, nonlinear moments are smoke and mirrors. Multiple linear paths pre-written by a developer, it's the quality of the illusion that makes it worthwhile. I'm happy that none of the characters can technically "not die" until latter in the game. It's the downside of a non-linear experience, sacrificing cohesive plot for the sake that the player wanted the main character to die. Yikes.
So while I agree with many points that the review brings up regarding choice, this same concept of illusion can easily be applied to any game of any genre that has choices. Citing a game for not letting me "do anything that I want" is kinda strange, because no game let's you technically do "anything that I want". We should appreciate the illusion, which he did with his first playthrough, understandably not during his second, and that should not override his original opinion. Just a nitpick, it's a damn big topic.
" heavy rain looks to be one of those games i love to watch on youtube (along with silent hill and the path) "This.
Your fine to have your preferences, but Dante's Inferno has some terrible design and pacing issues. I haven't played Heavy Rain yet, but it certainly seems those who have (i.e. the reviewers) consider Heavy Rain a better achievement of its goals." @trophyhunter said:
Honestly, though I haven't played either yet (though I have played both demos), I'm going to make the argument that Dante's Inferno is more 'fun' than Heavy Rain. Heavy Rain may have a better story, and it may be more "original" for young 'hipsters' such as yourself, but Dante's Inferno, AS A VIDEO GAME, succeeds more than Heavy Rain does, and I will defend this stance to the grave. So thanks, I will have fun. "" @Mooshu said:
" @trophyhunter said:Well your wrong and I'm sorry that you can't enjoy a video game like heavy rain. Have fun with dante's inferno. "Please don't insult my intelligence. I get it alright. I'm just not interested in what this game is offering. I'm not looking for an interactive movie, I'm looking for a video game. An interactive movie is not the kind of experience I want as a gamer, and in my humble opinion, Heavy Rain should not be considered a video game. "If that's what your worried about it's nothing like Indigo Prophecy. It's not QTEs as you know them, it's really making choices under the gaze of QTEs. Also with this type of game I can just say "If you don't get it maybe your to dumb, dummy" like jazz. "
The problem with Dante's Inferno is that God Of War exists, and did EVERYTHING in that game 100 times better years earlier. For a game trying to rip-off GoW, Inferno has atocious level design.
Also - I've rarely played a game this generation longer than 10 hours. I'm just sayin', yo. Maybe Heavy Rain should have had a tacked on multiplayer mode no-one would play.
