Embargo is up. Reviews are in. Here's what the gaming press think:

    IGN - 9
"Heavy Rain won’t be for everyone (namely kids or people just looking to blow stuff up) but its deep story, branching paths, and fleshed out characters make it a title that should be played by anyone looking to see what videogames are capable of in terms of heartfelt experiences. I cared about these people by the time the credits rolled, and that’s what made me want to go back and get their stories right."
    NowGamer - 8
"Heavy Rain deserves to sell. Unless popping heads off mouthy kids is all you want 'til the day you frikkin' die."
    GamePro - 5 (/5)
"An emotionally engaging thrill-ride from start to finish, Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain is a superbly crafted interactive experience, told expertly through it's stunning visuals and believable characters."
    GameInformer - 9.5
"Taking the right lessons away from its previous title, Indigo Prophecy, developer Quantic Dream has shorn away most traditional video game trappings from Heavy Rain. What remains is an innovative journey through an engrossing and well-paced mystery. You’re given just enough gameplay to forge a connection to the world and its characters, but not so much that it interferes with the game’s cinematic sensibilities. Heavy Rain is a truly pioneering title, and hopefully the vanguard for a new genre of interactive narratives."
    Eurogamer - 9
"It may be the only game you play this year where pulling the trigger makes you really feel something, and I can think of no greater compliment."
    Destructoid - 7
"Ultimately, Heavy Rain is an experiment that both succeeded and failed, when it could easily have been a total success if the brains behind it weren't trying so hard to be smart and cared more about providing a sensible plot as opposed to a shocking one. As a game, Heavy Rain is pretty good for the most part. Heavy Rain is just damn lucky it isn't the movie that it wishes so badly to be."

Kinda wish Sony would set their embargo a little closer to the release. I know it shows confidence in the product but by the time the game's actually out, all the hype generated from these reviews is dead. Anyway. I was a believer!

Flawed as it is, Heavy Rain is a game that anyone with even the vaguest interest in its intentions should experience for themselves. While it’s not quite the revolution for storytelling in video games, its accomplishments should prove it a worthy vanguard. And its ambition should be rewarded.

Hmm, Destructoid's article strikes upon the fears I've had about this game. Indigo Prophecy was pretty great until the final third when the plot went crazy and stupid and I think Heavy Rain may likely do the same thing. Will definitely still get it as I appreciate how experimental it is, but I don't think it will be the best story ever told or anything.

@spankingaddict: Heavy Rain was made by Quantic Dream, not Sony.
@Jeffsekai: Bioware says "why are you giving credit for our game to Microsoft?"

IGN's summary makes me roll my eyes, but I'm still looking forward to the game.

@Jeffsekai:  Oh yes, the Bioware game published by EA. (I appreciate the flawed original was published by Microsoft).

Lets not turn this into system wars though, yo.

@Kraznor: Without wanting to discredit their review, Destructoid went into that with an agenda. Only days before did they write a post about Heavy Rain doing other games a "disservice".

I have never played anything so momentous or revolutionary as Heavy Rain. In the coming years I expect the game's influence to be felt throughout the industry in terms of gameplay, storytelling and interactivity. This is a game that deserves all the plaudits it can get. So please go out and buy Heavy Rain and reward those that have made such a groundbreaking videogame event.

Hmm, I like how some reviewers make mention that this game is good even though you cant blow up or kill anything.  What, do they only play FPS?  Thats retarded, its not like those are the only games that have come out so far.
Sounds good, have my eye on that demo.  Is that out yet?

First of all, you should probably just edit new reviews into the OP.  And second...God damnit.  Why does every new game with an ounce of hype these days have to be the second fucking coming?  Fuck this review.

Kotaku and 1up also have reviews up, but I dont know how to do the link thingie :(

This is a silly thing to say.

Sony's just the publisher, they had nothing to do with development.

Plus, Quantic's previous game (Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy) that laid most of the groundwork for Heavy Rain is on Xbox Live.

I'll probably get this seeing as I thought Fahrenheit (Screw Indigo Prophecy) was great until it went so far up it's own ass storywise that it made Southland Tales seem like Avatar, but what a bunch of pretentious douchebags a lot of these reviewers seem to be.
God forbid that the simple troglodytes who purchase such dreck like Killzone and Halo get their filthy hands on this game lest they be confounded so much that they will begin banging their consoles with rocks.

I don't know, after reading the article and the review, it seems like he did a pretty good job separating himself from the idea that this was more of a movie than a game.  He makes it sound like he would have been even less friendly to it had it just been a movie.

My friend, i'm not stealth trolling. (nice last-minute edit, btw)
Reviews that are cautiously optimistic i hold dearer than those super duper ravings just to hype it all up.
I'm age 33, i'm not easily impressed anymore.
Maybe i should give up gaming entirely since i don't enjoy them as much as i used to and indeed stop writing inane comments.
So, there you have it, you win.

Stephen Totilo is one of my favourite reviewers, and I really enjoyed his review of Heavy Rain. Personally I think I'll like it, based on the demo. But if Jim Sterling (of Destructoid) is right about being able to sit the controller down and succeed through much of the game, or if the plot becomes as ridiculous as he says it becomes...then who knows? Maybe I'll be disappointed.

In two weeks we all get to see for ourselves, though, so at least review wars will be relatively brief.

This game made me consider to buy a PS3.
    Still, i don't know...
Destructoid and Nowgamer seem to have the right attitude towards this game.
Although i so want to be believe in the 9.0's and 9.5's. I wish i was a little more gullible at times. "

What the hell are you talking about? What makes Destructoid and NowGamer's opinion any more viable than the slew of other 9 or 10s? Because they scored it lower? And that's like saying 7 and 8 are "bad" to begin with (they're not).  You look like a tool for that comment. "
Seriously, if embracing a a game for taking risks, genuinely changing the way we think of video games is the wrong attitude, then what the fuck is the right attitude?

Also, don't wanna turn this into a flame war but Alan Wake's got it's work cut out.
