At one time, Hudson Entertainment was known as Hudson Soft. The studio was founded in Sapporo, Japan in 1973, initially catering for personal computer products, hardware and peripherals, but ultimately focussed on releasing entertainment titles, for all platforms, including mobile phone content.
At the end of the 8-bit era, Hudson Soft signed an exclusive development deal with the computer company NEC. They helped NEC make the 16-bit console known as the PC Engine or Turbo Grafx-16 depending on the region. Though Hudson Soft made many of the systems best games, like Super Star Soldier and Neutopia, the Turbo Grafx-16 itself was a doomed console. Once it got out that the console wasn't a true 16-bit console, the Turbo Grafx-16 died a quick but brutal death in the United States. The PC Engine would achieve huge success in Japan many years after its American console died. Unfortunately, Hudson took a financial hit when the console failed in the States. From that point onward, Hudson Soft released many games for different consoles. However, none of these games were huge successes for the company.
In an attempt to keep their company going, Hudson Soft entered the Stock Market. Konami brought out their stock in the year 2000. Konami renamed the company Hudson Studios. Hudson Studios became a division that created many forms of multi-media entertainment with Konami. In the Studio, Hudson Entertainment was created and became the main section for making video games. As of today, Hudson still make it's own games. However, they now answer to the people at Konami.
