Jagged Alliance is a franchise famous for it's methodical pace and rather steep level of difficulty. In it, you command a group of mercenaries working toward a common objective in a series of turn-based missions. The game is notable for the mercs each having biographies, histories and personalities(and with a cast of over 60, this is no small feat) which can impact which mercs they work well with, or even which ones they flat out refuse to associate with.

The player themselves must also maintain a good reputation by not getting their hired help killed, paying to have their body shipped home in the event of death, or not simply dismissing them for no reason. These things can negatively impact the player's reputation and the best mercenaries will simply not be available for hire, or may demand massive bonuses. The games were all PC releases until 2009 when a port of the original was released on the D.S.
