    Concept »

    Overview

Legendary Pokémon are special one-of-a-kind Pokémon that only appear in special spots or events in the Pokémon games. These Pokémon are often more powerful than normal Pokémon, and are often crucial to the storylines of their games. Legendary Pokémon can be captured by Pokémon Trainers using Poké Balls like other Pokémon. However, they are much harder to catch, due to their lower capture rates and the amount of work Trainers have to do to get to them in the first place. There are current 47 Pokémon that are considered Legendary, and they are often related to each other due to lore or story connections.

    • Arcanine is listed as a legendary Pokemon in its original Pokedex entry, a concept backed up in the anime when Ash reaches the first Pokemon Centre of Viridian City and discovers a plate on the wall depicting four mythical Pokemon - Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres and Arcanine. This is despite the fact that Arcanine is relatively easy to obtain in the games and is not a one-of-a-kind Pokemon.
