Really Great, Overlooked Money-Gouger
Little Samson's a game that is pretty much Doki Doki Panic-Super Mario 2 levels of infamous on the internet if you follow the right circles. It's a game that was released late in the systems lifespan, a game that was sold in small quantities and now commands high prices for anyone collecting NES games. I guess the difference is unlike a lot of the NES games that command ridiculous prices, this one is worth owning (albeit for a much lower price than what it's going for). Little Samson is short game that is pretty easy if you're used to platformers, plays like a lot of NES games and follows a structure.
However, that isn't to diminish the quality of the game, Little Samson is a blast to play through. If I had to compare it to anything I guess I'd compare it to those first three Mega Man titles on the NES (Except without Mega Man... so... better). The game looks really great, it's one of the better looking platformers on the NES for sure, the characters look personified and interesting, the backgrounds have some real detail into them. This is with Gimmick! and Ufouria in terms of quality assurance.
The control is just perfect. The way all the characters move is so smooth but the brake are on as soon as you stop pushing that directional pad. It's flawless. The only thing about Little Samson that is a bit of a disappointment is the sound, it doesn't change too much. That's because the sound is locked to the character you are playing as. If you're playing as Samson, you're playing with Samson's theme, etc etc.
I thought before I played this that I could very well have a underrated-classic on my hands and although it falls just short of classic, it's one of the top 20 games for the Nintendo Entertainment System and a game you need to check out if you have easy access, but don't ask me where you'd be able to play this for say, free... I wouldn't know. I'm a legal citizen.
