I have to say(and I know I'm gonna be hated by the mass when I say this)
 
Mario's voice is worst than Sonic's voice. It is the reason why I stopped playing Mario. When N64 came out, I stopped playing Nintendo games and yes I'm missing out blah blah blah but I could not stand Mario's voice. It was creepy and 3D Mario looked weird and because of the voice, he looked a pedophile.... I fell out of love for Mario since then. 
 
Sonic's voice is pretty bad too. His voice is like "I'm cool and a douche bag" type of attitude but I would listen to Sonic over Mario in any given day.
So, I'm gonna ask you guys. Who sounds worst? Mario? Or Sonic? We're not talking about the quality of the games because Mario wins hands down. But just for the voice. Who sounds better?

They are both terrible. Sonic sounds like a douche and Mario sounds like he belongs on the short bus. Personally when I play a Sonic game I try to make sure that I set his Japanese voice on and I try to block out whatever Mario says.

Sonic has reams of horrible, horrible dialogue. Mario just has a few yells. So Sonic's VO is "worst" (it's "worse," by the way) just by sheer volume.

In my opinion Sonic shouldn't even have a voice.  He should be a silent protagonist.

Mario speaks much less so therefore is much more tolerable.

Mario's voice is funny and he never really says much.  Sonic sounds like a character meant for kids, so it's just corny and annoying.

I think the reason Sonic gets so much hate is because he speaks in complete sentences.  His voice is already bad enough that no one (myself included) wants to hear him spit mad clichés about speed and being extreme every damn line.  Mario, on the other hand, is like a Pokemon; he only says 1-2 syllable words (the one outlier being "Here we go!") and doesn't try to talk about how extreme his coin collecting is.  It's a little easier to stomach.

Mario is a stereotype, so it's not his fault. 
Sonic has no excuse.

I honestly don't think Sonic's voice is that bad. It's pretty decent actually... 

I love Sonic's "cool dude" persona and I think his voice fits him. I think Mario's voice is lame/idiotic compared to his. But Mario is a silent protagonist (most of the time) so it befits him more than Sonic.

Heh heh, this reminds me of the Bombcast where someone (either Jeff or Ryan) started talking about how Mario has the mental capacity of a 3 year old.  Like, he basically just says the equivalent of "da da," whenever he shouts "yahoo!"  I still think sonic has a worse voice just because the 'tude annoys me more.  But yeah, they're both pretty retarded.

I don't like Mario's voice either (at least not when he's jumping around and shouting like in Galaxy), but at least they don't try to make him sound cool to 8 year olds.

I think Mario's voice is classic, I'm rather indifferent about Sonic's. Sonic is trying to be the cool dude and appeal to all the "hip" kids out there. Mario on the other hand is just unabashedly silly. Also, were you molested by a man in a Mario costume as a child?

Mario gets a pass for being in games that are fun.  I'd rather hear a million "Mud Pickles" then play a Sonic game.

Mario's voice is just fine, but that's because they limit his speech to a few choice catchphrases and grunts. 
 
Sonic's voice isn't as annoying as people think, but he just doesn't know when to shut up. If Sonic was less chatty, I think people would tolerate his shitty games a little more.

Agreed about Mario's voice & motivations in many games being rather short bus in nature, he does talk a lot less than Sonic but as long as both game franchises offer subtitles, if the voices get too annoying I can always just turn that part of the audio down to just hear the music or just hit the volume all the way off & turn on itunes/mp3 player.
