Max Payne 2 : The fall of max payne
I remember watching my older brother play the first Max Payne. It was the first time I'd ever seen Slow-motion in a game and it was also the first time that I'd seen such a complex plot in an action game. The first max payne was simply a gem, but is the sequel just as praiseworthy?
Yeah, I know, I'm late to the Max Payne 2 Review party. But having completed it for the first time less then two weeks ago. I stil find myself thinking back on it, a rare thing indeed. I don't know, maybe it's the dark noir-style story or the over-the-top action. Or, maybe it's both, all I know is something about this game makes it ( at least in my eyes) one of the best action games ever made. Yes, even in an age where games like Gears of war and Uncharted 2 exist, this game still stands out.
The story centers around two characters, Max Payne and Mona Sax, who plays the part of max's love intrest and slow-mo buddy.
The mood is just as dark and forboding as the first game ( if not more) and even if your just here for the story, MP 2 delivers.
Though I found the length to be a bit of an issue, at around 6 hours, it's a pretty short game. But the quality of the experience ( maybe not so much in 2010) makes up for it. Sure, the graphics aren't going to blow you away and maybe some of the voice-acting is a lttle off, but don't let that stop you from enjoying this great action game.
Oh yeah, there's actually a game here. At it's core MP 2 is a third-person shooter, but it's the slowmotion mechanic that helps MP2 stand out. Simply press a button and you're in "bullet time" in this mode you can dodge bullets and even reload without being hit. There are plenty of guns as well, though the selection is pretty average.
In the end Max Payne 2 is a simply amazing game and the fact that I'm saying this 7 years and a whole console generation later is a testament to how good this game is. If your a fan of action games, have 10 dollars and an average PC, then you should go on steam right now and pick this game up.
