Voice acting in a Metroid game = no
It didn't work for Metroid prime 3 and it won't work for this .
Did anyone else watch this and feel disappointed ? Don't get me wrong I am going to buy it but still ....
Game » consists of 8 releases. Released Aug 31, 2010
" @turbomonkey138: Did you just find out about this? It's been known that the game would have extensive voice acting for some time now. "Not been looking at the game unitll now tbh mate
" @turbomonkey138: Did you just find out about this? It's been known that the game would have extensive voice acting for some time now. "Indeed, this thread feels like it's fallen into a time warp and has teleported ahead in time by about 8 months to the present day.
"It didn't work in Metroid Prime 3? Really? In any case, both games are generally well received. "
I really preferred the way Metroid Prime 1 and 2 did most of the storytelling through scan logs. There was tons of detailed background information there if you wanted to read it. Much more interesting than cutscenes. It felt like you were actually investigating and discovering the story of the game instead of just having it told to you.
@Bobdaman18: The series is kind of hit and miss. I'd recommend Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and the first two Prime games as the best in the series.
"Why should this matter? If the game plays good, play it. I don't let the inclusion of voices in a game deter me, it's trivial in the large scope. "
I thought this topic was a year old... interesting.
Anyway, this is a unique experiment where Nintendo is actually trying to form some sort of detailed story and structure in a Metroid game and I have no problem with that, but if I had my way Metroid: Other M would be a classic 2D Metroidvania game with that feeling of isolation, but with the occasional narration from Samus.
Still, very excited for the game, voice acting and all.

"There's apparently this segment of the population that wishes for Metroid to remain a characterless, emotionless void of isolation and silence. An odd bunch, they are. "
I actually liked the voice acting in Prime, and I have to admit that the acting in the trailer that was posted was pretty consistently awful. Wow.
Metroid Prime 3 voice acting wasn't all too bad but it wasn't great either imo. The prime series is what made me interested in this franchise and this game is doing nothing for me. I'll pass.
So I started playing it today.
I admit it was a lil getting used to a talking Samus and cutscenes in mah Metroidz, but I really liked it.
It already became one of my fav games ever with just a few hours in, the atmosphere is perfect.
Maybe it's just because it's a rather refreshing title, maybe it's just my opinion.
But I'm having a lot of bloody fun.
"I wouldn't be annoyed at the voice acting if they would have kept Jennifer Hale and the dialogue was better. Why did they get rid of her again? Also, I thought voice acting in Prime 3 worked pretty well. "

" @Apathylad said:It bugs me because almost no games pull it off the way half life does."It didn't work in Metroid Prime 3? Really? In any case, both games are generally well received. "Yeah, the voice acting in Prime 3 isn't bad. The only thing that bugged me about it is the usual Half-Life syndrome of everyone but the protagonist having a voice. "
I shall now boycott what is otherwise a good game. Thanks for pointing it out!
Kidding.
Symphony of the Night, that's all I'm saying.
" @NekuSakuraba: Yeah....no. Silly men deciding what's sexist and what's not for me, heh. Women have boobs, they stick out, deal with it. If anything from what I've seen so far Samus is a accurate image of what I expect such a scenario to handle women. Besides, I'm shooting stuff in space! Fuck logic! "Note to self: Sarcasm does not travel well over the internet. D:
That's where they've got you!"

" Samus has had narrative before, in her 2D games. Getting a voice was not only good, but also inevitable. The real travesty would be if Link became able to speak. "Yeah, I don't see Link getting a voice any time soon. Especially since the actual Link changes from game to game. It's not a situation like Metroid where the character is consistent from game to game.
" So is Anthony the other M? "There are a lot of Ms thrown about in this game. Personally, my mind was slightly blown when they revealed a character with the name
