ORIGINAL STORY: The first phase of Nintendo's 3DS Ambassador program will begin rolling out on September 1, bringing early adopters a set of 10 NES games. We've known five of the games, but Nintendo of Japan has announced the other five, too--and there are some classics to get excited about.

The full list is as follows, with the previously unannounced games in bold:

• Wrecking Crew
• NES Open Tournament Golf
• Yoshi
• Metroid
• Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
• Super Mario Bros.
• Donkey Kong Jr.
• Balloon Fight
• Ice Climber
• The Legend of Zelda

Confession: I've never played Zelda II. The differing perspective totally threw me off, and I just never came back. Shame. The stories of fighting Dark Link are legendary, though, so I'm not exactly looking forward to that, but I am hoping to cross off a sore spot in my pile of should-have-played video games.

These versions of vintage Nintendo releases aren't fully featured, either. The games will eventually have Virtual Console's standard "restore point" save and load functionality, but that's coming later. On September 1, you'll be limited to a "VC Suspend" option. Don't let your battery run out!

Man, I used to play so much Yoshi back in the day. I'm excited to play it again. It would be epic if they added some online play somewhere down the line for some of these old NES classic, but I know that would almost certainly never happen.

I feel better about just waiting and getting the system for $110. Which I did.

Nice list of games but until they add a save feature to them, who really cares? What happens if you want to play another game halfway through zelda? Turn it off and play the other game but lose all data of your current game? GJ nintendo for trying to say your sorry but yet giving out thigns that are still broken.

Yay! For the first time ever I'm happy to be an early-adopter haha.

Both zeldas and metroid make it worth it for me.  Love those games.  Being able to play em on my 3DS is gonna be swell

Zelda 1 and Zelda 2 are enough to keep me from being annoyed by the rest of the list.

Not worth it to have owned a 3DS...I pretty much have all of those in some form or another...3DS really needs some real games. For now I will play mt DS Lite with many GBA classics still playable thanks to it.

Zelda 2 is kind of hard, but it's one of my favorite Zelda games. The downward thrust is the best thing in the entire game.

Haven't had any urge to play it lately though.

I love Zelda 2. Played it through twice. Maybe happy memories.

I don't think Suspend works like you think its going to. Its not like GBA or DS Sleep mode. It will be like Virtual Console on the Wii so when you exit the game it will create a save state and restore that state when you load. So you don't really have to worry about battery power unless your mid-game and ignore the battery warning as long as you exit out of the game it should save.

The "Restore Point" stuff they are taking about is the new VC stuff they added to the 3DS Gameboy games where you can also at any time create a save state and restore it at any time. It makes games like Super Mario Land even easier because you can just create a Restore Point before a boss and just load that up when you die or run out of lives. Its the type of functionality PC emulators have had since the beginning but Nintendo has shied away from implementing until now.

Three of those games are kinda lame. I would have much preferred SMB2 and 3, as well as PunchOut!!.

Other than the inclusion of Metroid I am not happy with the last five games. I was hoping for Kid Icarus and, If they really wanted to be cool, a localization of Mother. Even mario 2 or 3. dammit.

Something tells me I'm gonna fuckin hate these games when I play them again. A few of them I've played so many times over the years that they don't even have any nostalgia left to them, because they've pretty much always been around in some form. They're great NES games, but they're also the past that never went away haha

The 3DS continues to be one of the least interesting platforms of recent memory.

I never received a message saying I was an ambassador, really worried I won't get these.

Nope. Not even a bit. If you look at my previous posts I've even discussed how good of a job I think Nintendo's done of handling the whole situation. As someone who purchased a 3DS at $250 and never really touched it, I'm not angry at all. They were remarkably honest for a huge company and seem to have delivered a program that most of their fans are content with.

That doesn't, however, mean I have to like the content they're giving me as an ambassador. I don't think I'm entitled to anything at all. I bought the device at full price knowing a price drop was imminent and that there was nothing to play on the system. Nintendo does not owe me a damn thing. I'm simply stating that of what they're giving me, none of it interests me in the slightest.

I have higher hopes for the GBA games. The catalog published by Nintendo on the GBA has a lot more potential.
