S.T.A.L.K.E.R was the hardest game ive ever played..
might have been easier if i treated it more like an RPG and less like an FPS though.
NWN2 on the hardest difficulty is also worth mentioning, if your not used to D&D then you will be murdered.

Hardest PC Game You Ever Played/Completed
Every mission in X Wing vs. Tie Fighter. What's so hard about that, you ask? Well, it required a joystick to play and the only joystick I had at the time was one which was permanently turning to the right. So I ended up beating every mission while constantly spiraling all over the place
Kind of a weird question because of difficulty levels, but agreed on Far Cry and Rainbow Six. Soldiers: Heroes of World War II was really tough. The Commandos games also were very tough.
Well I finished halo combat evolved like 3 months ago, i'm going with that game. It's honestly not easy at all, I played a ton of fps games before and didn't have a problem with it. Also half life was difficult because I couldn't figure out what i'm suppose to do. I haven't finished the game yet and I hate it unlike half life 2 which imo was fantastic and balanaced.
I Wanna Be The Guy
Ultimate Doom on the hardest difficutly without cheating, now that was fucking hard.
How do you like that, PUNK?!
I would say for a FPS it would be S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Basically they never gave you enough ammo to go up against all of the enemies. I hated you would kill all those bastards and they never had any ammo, but they would be blasting away at your ass forever. All of the COD series on the hardest setting always has 2-3 levels that just will just friggin piss me off.
My RTS most difficult would be Blitzkrieg, or Command and Conquer. Both very frustrating, but fun
Old school RPG would be Ultima 3. NO WAY anyone can finish that game without a walkthru.
Also, back in the day when it was common place to have a joystick with the PC there was a game called Dragons Lair. I would say it was maybe the first QTE game. You had to move the joystick in a certain direction as events occurred. Problem was, you never knew what direction and it was very time sensitive. If you failed one part you had to start over. Usually would entail 10 perfect moves per level, but it had to be so precise it made it very frustrating.
Silent Storm was incredibly tough at parts, especially during its earliest levels before your characters start getting decent weapons and stats.
Besides that, I'd say the most brutally difficult game I've completed is probably Caesar 2. I just couldn't wrap my head around the basics of that game for a long time.
Both System Shock games. I was forever getting lost in the second one. And The Witcher on hard mode was a bitch. If you didn't take the time to lvl your alchemy and use it properly the game was damn near impossible.
Hardest one I've played? Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.
You can't move an INCH without risking death, literally. Your team AI is horrible, so you're pretty much on your own. The original Ghost Recon was pretty hard too.
I dunno which one would be the hardest I've beat. I think me and my brother made it through MDK2 together, but I'm not sure. Probably not. That game was tough. I know we made it respectably far though.

Yeah, Half Life 1 with no cheats back in the day. Would've been Far Cry, had I ever finished the damn thing...
Probably the old ShadowMan because it's a backtracking/unlocking nightmare with huge interconnected, utterly complicated maps that usually have multiple entry and exit points - some are even nested in others. If there had not been a printed map in the retail box, it would have been unplayable.
I enjoyed the game FARCRY as well. But when I got to the end where you had to run and jump off the cliff when the level started I always got jumped by the enemy creature. Forgetting the name of it already. The Other game I still can't figure out is SCRATHES. It's a first person mystery horror video game. So stuck on it. Love the graphics and storyline though.
The Sniper Town level in MOH:AA pissed me off so much I just turned on god mode and never looked back.
Also, I had to take a month-long break from Half-Life 2 because of Ravenholm had me so freaked out.

"Oh man I hated that sniper town. I have no clue how my ten year old self beat it. Then again, I did play that game online.
